It doesn't matter what some retarded favela monkey knows or cares about, the reason the US is an economic powerhouse is because we have so many states contributing to our massive GDP. >In Massachusetts? Really? Why?
Around 1900s (I think) a bunch of Azoreans and Madeirans moved to the Southeast of the state and Rhode Island. The established Portuguese speaking community continued to attract lusophones from mainland Portugal, still does, and more recently Cape Verde and Brazil. My nextdoor neighbors mother is from Cape Verde.

Yes, I live in the midwest. Just Illinois, Michigan, and Ohio alone have a larger GDP than Brazil. That's about 35 million people give or take. Brazil has a a population over 200 million. Do the math you fucking monkey. How does it feel to be less relevant than 3 bumblefuck midwestern US states?

Maybe their GDP is more than a tight funnel through which a substantial part of the third world is squeezed.
>>
>>61203806
That makes no sense. Boston metro for the most part is the state. Also, how could you possibly consider New York State relevant with out including New York City?
>>
>>61202674
Probably because of all the government agencies and bureaus headquartered there, same reason as to why Virginia would be there
>>
>>61203971

Isn't that kind of the point? People outside of the metro get pissy over all the money going to Boston, but Boston is where all the money comes from.

Also, New York State isn't that relevant. New York and the Tristate area is huge. There's a ton of politics due to the massive weight that city has on the rest of the state.
>>
New Jersey is fairly relevant.
>>
>>61204995

all of those states aside from michigan are top 10 gdp. i don't know what some of you define as relevant, but money is literally everything. no one cares if you have a neat landmark or your city was featured in a tv show.
>>
>>61200001
>>61205335
This. The map is pretty dead on but you're missing New Jersey. NJ has the 8th largest GDP, the 3rd highest per capita income and the 10th highest median income of all the states.
>>

Virginia and Maryland around the DC area though?
>>
>>61204530

Security and commodity exchanges aren't really counted as part of the financial and banking sector usually so that's why there's a gap.

The CME Group bought the DJIA in 2010, to give you an idea of the size of that industry in Chicago.
>>
>>61206969
Once again, you're confusing fame with relevance.
>>
>>61206969
But that's more popular culture relevancy then economical and influential relevancy.

Maybe OP could have specified more clearly but from his picture he's obviously talking about the latter.

.
>>
>>61206654
Georgia has the HQs of Coca Cola, UPS and Delta Airlines. Hugr service economy. Atlanta Int'l Airport is the busiest in the world.

Ohio has tons of colleges, a huge healthcare and biomedical industry and a large manufacturing sector (rubber, plastics, fabricated metals and electrical components). Ohio would be slightly behind Sweden in terms of GDP if it were its own country.

Aerospace is in Alabama because Von Braun said he liked Alabama and wasn't going to move. If he'd left like the government wanted it'd probably be the poorest state in the Union but it's come a long way in 50 years because of the rocket program.
>>
How is Jersey not relevant? It's far more relevant than Georgia, NC, and Virginia. And you have Maryland on here, what the fuck?
>>
>>61207592
It has offices in Cali, Oregon, and Washington, it started in Washington and Bill Gates lives here so we consider it a Washington company.

>>
Are there even any important people from Alabama other than MLK?
>>
>>61207797
It's getting better all the time but yeah it's pretty much entirely reliant on manufacturing, and if those jobs ever leave Alabama is fucked because it doesn't even have much of a service industry and there's nothing super notable to draw in tourists.
>>
>>61207703
So what? How are they relevant?
Top 5:
1 - New York
2 - Texas
3 - California
4 - Florida
5 - New Jersey

Everybody in the world knows these states. Ask someone in Europe what state Chicago is in and they will not know. Ask someone in Asia to point to Maryland on a map. Ask an Australian what they know about Virginia and they'll say,
