>>61121620
>41% of people speak irish
is this statistic actually true?
My Irish friends tell me the only people who speak Irish are pensioners in the Gaeltachts. None of the youth bother with it.
When are you leaving the EU and joining the one true union again?
>>61126687
Young people are capable of speaking it, they just don't bother outside of school.
>>61126718
Would prefer to be in the commonwealth than the EU tbqh
Where is he???
>>61126687
>Pensioners in the Gaeltachts
No, you just happen to be friends with the percentage that literally don't care about the language. Ask them to speak Irish and if they can't, don't mind them.
It's spoken throughout Dublin, in many colleges and shops and pubs.
Am I in the money?
glad gerry is giving insightful tweets as always
bumping this for our inevitable win

ive lived here 3 years and i can tell you, the muh heritage meme isnt real. americans dont care about it at all.
and youre going on about your grandaddy being irish or whatever when its not relevent to the discussion
it's almost as if brits have a superiority complex to americans despite being just as bad as them and in some ways, worse.
It seems that our Saxon friend has exited this thread. Clearly my debating prowess, combined with my indisputably illustrious personality, caused him to back away in terror.
My ego remains intact.
>>61137217
I ceapann that because I've been through the Irish public school system, and it was taught very poorly at each level.
The honours teachers were the only ones that seemed to give a fuck, and besides having a few phrases to throw out here and there, the majority of people I've encountered don't speak a lick of Irish.
I would like to learn, though.
>>61137456
oh thought you were just some nip shitposting haha
yeah i agree its the school system. needs to be taught how ESL is in europe. would be great if we made every school a gaeltacht
i plan on learning also, at some point.

I was a weeb in secondary and started learning it for fun on my own, then came time for third level and here we are. Language learning is pretty great, but it can be hard to stay motivated.
Funny thing is, not so much of a weeb anymore.

If you continue to experiment like that, you'll have an arse like that flag you're posting under. Sad cunt.

Give it time. The orient is a strange place and it makes you do strange things. First it is cartoons, next you are getting pulverised with a samurai sword hilt. Just a warning. Sad cunt.

Bring back the drug talk
>>61141567
I think drugs are cool man, I'm going to try herion one time, never do it again after that lol, can't wait.
>>61141567
drugs are for the intellectually undeveloped and unenlightened miscreants who pure tranquillity of mind is beyond
>>61141728
You are trying to be funny but actually you are not. Herion is a complete safe drug and only addictive to addicts.
Basically injecting herion has a similar effect on your opiate receptors as eating 5 poppy seed bagels.
Herion is safer and less addictive than tobacco and when used in moderation can help alleviate stress and help you unwind.

Been here since last September, heading back home in a while.
The country is fucking beautiful, tripping over the culture, eating out is really cheap (one yuro is ¥130) and the weather's grand.
I'd recommend coming for a visit at least: tour the place in Summer after rainy season and you'll have a great time. Might be worth having some folks with you that know the language, but a lot of stuff's written in English.
>>61143133
dont japs have ridiculously bad english though
>>61143174
Some do, although some have flawless English. I'm at a university that specialises in international communication though, so maybe I'm not getting the real story.
>>61143133
sound lad always wanted to visit
>>61143303
what are you studying? are the fees expensive?
>>61143549
Language and culture, mostly (took the doss culture class this semester, though: too much writing in the real classes. Just sit around watching Ghibli and then write a short essay in English giving reactions). The core language classes are fairly intensive, so it balances out.
I think I paid the fees up front ages ago, and I remember them being nowhere near as expensive as Ireland's (if I'm remembering correctly, they weren't more than a hundred Euro for enrollment).
>>61127136
Nice to see a resurgence certainly. Do you think they intend to seriously have it become the first language of the country and to make English the second with coming years? Personally I think that'd be kinda cool, but perhaps also a bit foolish, considering that such a large portion of Ireland's history is being a part of the United Kingdom, and since English is the world's global glue language.
My mom's a hardcore Irish muh heritage fag (but her grandparents on my maternal grandpa's side were actually Irish immigrants and we have legitimate cousins in Ireland so I guess it's fair) and when I was a kid she put me into some gay Irish camp (gay because it was fuckin' shit), and we spent a few hours a day learning some basic Gaelic from some grumpy hags from Ireland. Good times.

>The country is fucking beautiful, tripping over the culture, eating out is really cheap
This. I did a two weeks in Osaka a few years back, it was glorious, fantastic, and amazing. Cannot recommend trips to Japan enough!
