what is the advantage of manual

t. no car
>>
>>60983279
why do americans hate diesel?
>>
>>60983393
you save money on gas and have a lame skill to brag about
>>
>>60983393
more control
>>
>>60983440
Nobody brags about it, do americans do that if they drive manual because it's rare?
>>
>>60983481
here, yeah. only people i know who drive stick shift are those from more rural parts like me. most cityfags don't know, and some legit don't even know how to fill up their fucking car with gas.
>>
>>60983393
More control over transmission of power to the wheels from the internal combustion engine. It means you can have a sportier funner ride and can use a lower gear when it's appropriate, e.g. pulling a heavy load, making a hill start, using resistance from the pistons to slow you down a hill
>>
>more control
didn't know so many people are racedriving with their normal car.
>>
>>60983535
>legit don't even know how to fill up their fucking car with gas
Because they drive el-cars?
>>
>>60983554
This.

I used to pretend to be driving rally in my parents' Toyota van
>>
>>60983541
you can do all of it with automatic transmissions these days
There's really no advantage except for potentially higher lifespan of the gearbox due to less electronic parts.
>>
My favourite type of tranny.
>>
>>60983279
Thanks for the laugh, Texas flag. Some Americans do drive manuals though, such as myself.

because their mom fills it up for them

And always feel very superior for doing so
>>
>>60983865
They drive their mom's car, you mean? That makes sense, I would let her fill the car then too. I got my own car when I got my licence, and I naturally filled it myself.
>>
>>
>>60983879
I don't get the superiority. Why the fuck is it "superior" to have a transmission that takes more work and effort to do? With an automatic, I don't have to think about any of that shit. I just drive. But maybe it's because I'm not a yuropoor and can afford an automatic

>>60983879

It also grants greater control of your vehicle and *certain* studies have shown it causes you to be less distracted while driving contributing to greater safety.
Also it makes you less of a faggot
>>
>>60983953
Because it makes you less of a pansy ass lil bitch
>>
>>60983440
It's slower and less efficient than an automatic transmission.
>>
>>60984021
It's called the right side for a reason.
>>
I don't see the point of manual if owning a car is only for transportation. Not to mention in the US we have shitty public transportation. I don't mind car loving faggots wanting to do more work to drive that is their problem.
>>
>>60983953
enjoy your 2-3 second delay between hitting the gas and your shit actually gearing down

meanwhile I can do it before I hit the gas. Of course if you primarily sit in traffic on a commute, you may already be emasculated so don't bother

my bicycle has automatic-gear.
manual gear system is outdated
why guys think feel manual gear interesting?
>>
Cars aren't meant to be fun, cars are meant to take you from Point A to Point B.
>>
>>60983953
In a manual if you want to slow down you change to a lower gear, in an automatic you have to use the breaks.

I've tried an automatic and it feels like you're completely out of control, plus you have to repeatedly replace your break pads.
>>
>>60984996
Or, you know... Change down with the left paddle. Automatic transmissions have improved a lot in the past few decades.

For a snow mongoloid perspective, cold climate isn't optimal for automatic transmission, which is why people brag about "MUH MANHUAL". Also people tend to buy used cars, because butifel socialism taxes and manual gearboxes tend to last longer than automatics.
>>
>>60985195
they can be more than that.
work tools, status symbols, toys, investments, homes.
>>
>>60983535

Would make no sense here since you need to learn on a manual (you're only allowed to take your driving test with an automatic if you have a medical need to do so, like only having one leg or being otherwise crippled or some shit). Your license would then only allow you to drive automatics, and would bar you from professions that require a license (ambulance, police etc).

That being said, I drive an automatic myself, comfy af tbqhwy.

I'm euro and have auto trans. Still have manual in truck tho.

If you're not into mad skidz and burnouts auto is just better for DD.
>>
>>60983279
because manual transmition is all chilolean can afford... not even a whole car
>>
There is literally no point in driving manual.
>>
>>60983393
Its more fun.
>>
Is it true automatics can't engine brake ?
>>
>>60993563
No. I've driven an automatic that had a dedicated button for engine braking. And it works a lot better than shifting into low gear in a manual.
>>
>>60983953
it's the other way, europeans use tiptronic and americans don't even know what that means
>>
>>60993633

It's just buzzword for electronically controlled automatic box.

Every auto shitbox from 10 years ago to present can classify as tiptronic.
>>
>>60983393
Auto has this annoying habit of having some zones of speed where its complete shit. I.E Gears down too fast in uphill. Its a minor annoyance.
Auto do also cost more, which is whatever, except for the fact it has to be replaced if broken, and people buy used cars with worn parts.
>>
>>60993758
nah it's a manumatic, you can switch between manual or automatic and no clutch
>>
>>60993947
If it doesn't have a clutch, it's not a manual.
And "manumatics" are just automatic transmissions, where you have some very slow and limited controll on gear selection. It even has a torque converter.
>>
>>60994108
but you do have control, you there are just some limitations, it can even learn you shifting patterns and do the same in auto mode

No man, tiptronic is pure automatic.

The no clutch manual is sensonic like in Saab.

Cheap euro shitboxes use robotic manual trans where gearleveler and clucth are operated by actuators. Those are cheaper than proper auto but drive like shit. This tech has many commercial names like easytronic, selespeed...

Tiptronic manual shifting is controlled through buttons with a plus sign for up-shifting and a minus sign for down-shifting. This is similar to what many sports cars use in order to give an authentic feel. The first Tiptronic system was originally produced by Porsche; since then, later systems adopted similar technology with the same name.

Tiptronic systems allow drivers to choose whether they want to drive automatic, where the computer does gear shifting or manual mode where the driver has the opportunity to change the gear. Other systems have tried to emulate the feel of manual without giving you full control, but the Tiptronic transmission is the first device that offers a choice. The system has safeguards in place that keep drivers from going past the RPM red line when operating under manual control. If drivers fail to use manual shifting for a certain amount of time with Tiptronic, the software on the transmission automatically switches back to automatic and controls all shifts through the computer once again. It is then necessary to turn it on again to go back to manual.

>>60983606
Many american states only have full-service gas stations
>>
One major advantage of manual is that a normal gearbox is MUCH cheaper to fix than a fucked up automatic transmission
>>
>>60994878
That pic is confusing me.

I don't like it.
>>
>>60994939
Just Oregon and New Jersey.
>>
>>60994878

Even my '05 Ford Focus which was about the cheapest auto car you could get has + - shifting and adaptive (learning) shifting mode.

Tiptronic = regular auto box
>>
>>60983769
What are you talking about. I had an auto for two years and you can't do any of those things except for easier hillstart. Autos have no control over the rpm what so ever and as a result your control over the motor and what you choose to do with it is extremely limited. Driving an auto made me feel very very frustrated
