>>
>>60860794

USA do not really import any oil from Iraq

they fucked the middle east over because there was a real possibility the oil producing countries to start trading their oil in different currencies - forcing USA to re-organize it's own economy as endless printing of money would become detrimental

so instead of managing it's own economy to be more sustainable, USA decided to fuck over a whole region for decades to come

When the United States originally took over Iraq they were welcome and seen as liberators. It wasn't until Sunnis and Shias started fighting each other that US forces had to stop violence. The reason half a million people died in Iraq was because insane religiously motivated jihadists started literally blowing each other up and killing civilians. This obviously escalates when civilians die in the crossfire and the West is blamed immediately. Sunnis can blow up a Shia mosque and kill 75 people but 2 kids are accidentally killed by a grenade and theres Muslim militias ready to behead American soldiers. Invading Iraq was a mistake, but don't entirely blame America for Muslims in the region killing each other over whos uncle should have taken over the caliphate 1400 years ago. Also blame Obama on the rise of ISIS, fucker literally did nothing to stop them from conquering territory the size of North Carolina

Sorry, I didn't realize terror was a quantifiable subject. Tell me, where did you learn to measure terror?

In point of fact, terrorism plots have been mostly unsuccessful since 9/11 and the death count from terrorism has tapered off dramatically. Terrorism as it is today is almost entirely domestic lone wolf attacks thanks to the very successful War on Terror, which decimated terrorist groups and has prevented any follow-up to 9/11

??? The first largest city is Baghdad, which has never fallen to ISIS. The second largest is Basra, which has never fallen to ISIS. The third largest is Mosul, the only one in the top 10 they control. After they take Fallujah, and most everybody thinks that's an inevitability, ISIS will only control one major city. The way you frame your post misleads people into thinking the main force wasn't the Iraqi military.

>Tell me, where did you learn to measure terror?
http://www.pewresearch.org/topics/terrorism/
This measures how much terror Americans are under since 2000. They have been asked the same question "how concerned are you about Terrorism" since 2000. 2016's response was the highest since 2001.

Huh then why was 2015 the year with the most deaths to terror in modern history?

I don't know how old you were in 2001 but in the Northeast people were a lot more scared than they have been since than. If you went to NYC the scale of the destruction and the stink in the air wasn't easily ignored.

it's going to get more complicated. I want the Kurds to have their own state but I also don't want them to have all the oil and to let the rest of Iraq devolve into shit piles with no future. It'd be cool to have a completely secular state, that's the only way it's gonna work in my mind.

At the current pace it won't be till 2018 that Iraq is under nominal government rule again.

In the meantime, the Kurds are practically independent.

Not to mention that ISIS in Syria will still be able to attack Iraq after that. Just like in 2014.

The second we withdraw support like we did in 2011, Iraq will go to hell again.

You're conflating terror, concern about terrorism, and terrorism into a single entity. The War on Terror was a war on terrorism, not on an emotion you experience every time you see a scary film

And again, the 2015 number is mostly irrelevant for Western countries as the body count from terrorism has completely dropped off the charts

What aren't you getting? I want to help you

ISIS is only increasing and it's being widely accepted as the de facto Islamic fundamentalist group.
