Honestly I live in a really left wing area with a lot of gays so massive amounts of grief, anger etc. Same general sentiment shared but on a milder level throughout the area.

I think it'd be much better if all governmental benefits were removed from marriage and instead made into something along the lines of a civil union on the federal level. That way marriage would no longer be appealing to the majority of homosexuals. And if gays still wanted to get married afterwards because they subscribe to Christianity and could find a priest to do it, good for them.
