Well, we have to look at the reasons causing the war. The main reasons were great gap between the level of development of villages and cities. While the latter were pretty comfy and civilized, the former were literally Africa tier. All the power was in the hands of Assad clan (same in literally every USSR country btw) and people in the cities became unsatisfied with it. Also national minorities were oppressed due to Arab nationalism. So the liberals started the uprising which destabilized the country; when villagers became involved, they started forming Islamist organizations because villagers were very religious and retarded. So the war became weird conflict omni contra omnes style.
