Washington Consensus (World Bank, IMF, WTO etc.).

The few countries wish ignored the "structural adjustment programmes" of the Washington Consensus were the ones which became rich. All the others got poorer.

Well my country was pretty much in good form in the 70's (we actually were known as the little Japan, because we had been developing really fast) but then civil war happened, the USA had to do their thing and intervene, then gangs happened in the USA and then America deported them all back to this war thorn country where they evolved in numbers pretty quick, and yeah, the rest is history.

My guess could be that (and I'm not saying that this is what is really happening, but, yeah) they want to fuck Centro America and Mexico so they keep sending illegals to the USA (who work for salaries that no sane white American would accept).

My country's police and military has killed a lot of gangsters this past few months (which is amazing) but nope USA already told them that if they keep violating the human rights of those sub humans they will take some actions... Can you believe them?? it's like they want us to keep going to USA illegally...

Because if they keep them poor then they will be an easy source of cheap labour, their governments will be easier to corrupt, and the people will be less likely to demand higher wages or better working conditions since they are desperate or their governments will crack their head open.

Not really that complicated.

>>
as far as latin america goes, pervasive anti-intellectualism and a kind of victim complex culture that tries really hard to analyse and blame all of our problems on colonisation/imperialism

third world east asians have a culture of thinking they as individuals are at fault for being undeveloped and shitty, and study/work really hard to fix their situation

latin americans focus on how their thirdworldness was/is exclusively to blame on exploitation by developed countries, not trying at all to improve the situation by themselves, instead only looking for more varied ways to play the victim
>>
>>60633483
Exactly.

Look at the improvements in Africa in recent years, do you really believe that those were the result of people just deciding not to be poor anymore?

We are a gigantic failure because of our terrible culture and until that changes we will forever remain a shithole.

confirmed you are a stupid gookpong, you always intentionally neglect every scientific and proven economical statistics about your growth, or avoid touching it, and then just get to the point of making up "we wuz miraclez n shit".

on top of that sadly that the same goes for even korean academics. they allow those unscientific bullshit to exist in academic scenes for that muh ethnicism and miraclez and as a result there scam artists go everywhere.

just realize thats what makes you prevent yourself from getting an achievement of basic science and objective social science critiques to your society.

Lmfao
historical ignorance is always hilarious
you really think this shit can be traced back to mid-20th century Keynesian programs even though it had been like this for the past 400 or so years by then
It's called the atlantic economy, post-renaissance early capitalism and early globalism created strong european economies in the wake of global trade, the chinese and indians who have historically had the more dominant economies didn't have anything to buy from Europe as they were mostly just exporters and their rulers rejected a form of economy that the state didn't have control over, however the sheer amount of european money being pumped into their economies made them reliant on international trade - their unwillingness to be competetive made their economies stagnate while Europe's advanced
As for South America, they were pretty much BTFO during the colonization process

This isn't an argument for or against capitalism as much as it is objective history in the shortest summary of which i can write. personally i'm not defensive of capitalism or globalism at all but i am very defensive of historical fact, so please shave your neckbeards

Mexico nationalized all their industries and small minded populist socialist governments scare people into keeping foreign investment away.

Nationalized monopolies are the worst thing that a government can do. Unless you have exceptional amounts of a resource like China or Saudi Arabia it will keep everyone poor.

We are as poor as the Peruvian or Colombian, since 95% of the wealth is in the hands of private (family Angelini, the Luksic family Matte) but the ignorant people still believe that Chile is a great country and constructions like " Costanera center "represent the wealth of Chile, but this building belongs to a German called Horst Paulmann and I could continue naming examples like this.

This is just my American perspective and socialists might disagree with me but I don't think it matters that only one guy owns that building.

My definition of a developed country is as follows:
If someone works hard in school can they get a job that will provide income enough that they can buy a house, a car and raise a family. Will their children have the same opportunity to succeed?

So back to the big building.
The wealth is generated by the end result. The prosperity comes from the job opportunities provided to the engineers and architects who designed and built it. And when it is built some Chilean company may rent it as their headquarters and such a great furnishing makes them look like a world-class company to foreign investors and helps them land some huge deal. This helps the company grow and employ even more Chileans.

So again, just because the building is owned by some rich guy doesn't mean it's like a castle that doesn't help anyone else.

And similarly, just because the copper mining corporation is owned by some billionaire doesn't mean the average Chilean can't succeed by studying geological engineering and landing a six figure job with the company.

What do you think? Do Chileans not have opportunities to succeed?
>>
>>60637218
Pretty much, being a 'nouveau rich' starting from the absolute bottom is attainable through hard work.

There are still many obstacles on our way to leveling the field of life opportunities, but we're getting there.

Can't speak for the others, but we're poor because every leader since the 1960s only cared about themselves and their tiny circle of friends.

We wuz the second richest country in SEA, on the fast track to becoming a developed nation, but there was a coup de tat and the guy implemented a corrupted, deformed version of Maoism. My father regularly talks about a time when the government allowed students to use only 3 pencils a year, so he had to use them until they were so short that he couldn't even hold them.
