Reminder for uncultureds and fly-overs that just because you think something is "super tasty" doesn't warrant it as a superior cuisine.

I used to think that before i started visiting Japan but the baseline for food is very high there and I think Japanese food very much deserves its reputation for precision and care, I think its one of the hardest countries to have an actual bad meal in.

In terms of influence Japanese food is now famous from low end to haute cuisine and it is only in same league as France for high end eateries.

Its a good "pleb filter" cuisine because the food relies on good ingredients and skilled chefs rather than an overload of "tasty flavours". I think this is a concept that all top cuisines have especially Italian.

>>60571244
Nah I think both have the same love and quality of food but when you elevate this to "food influence" France is higher and this is even clearer if you look at a recipe book or the restaurant industry. For many being a trained chef is basically just being taught the French way.

Italian cuisine is so uninspired and basic that it pleases the taste of even your most fussy three year old. In fact the only reason it is so popular is because of its popularity in America, where the average palate isn't too different from aforementioned three year old.

>>
>>60577734
Why would I?

Though olive leaves are something I would only eat at gunpoint
>>
>>60571244
Not really.
There's more than just the taste of food desu.
People don't come from all over the world to France simply to learn how to cook or serve food.
There's a whole thing around the food that's hard to find elsewhere in the world, otherwise, if it's just about recipes everybody would "get on our level".
And all over the world, they actually are on our level, when you go to fancy restaurants/hotels in big cities, well it's all perfect, and yet, a large majority of people seem to prefer France, and its French food.

Same can be said about wine, I've tasted very very great wines from surprising countries like China or Turkey, no kidding, it's as good as ours (it would easily be 5 times more expensive it had an AOC).
We make the difference in all the rest. We have this culture, this way of presenting/doing things. French are excellent, without any competitor, when it's about associating wine with the right food, etc.

When you have all of that, the rest is simply a make-believe. People will automatically be biased, or it will have some sort of placebo effect.
>>
>>60578125
Do you smell your own farts?
>>
you are wrong about America. Although it seems like they serve food here, I assure you that it's an illusion. I'll admit, it has a high degree of verisimilitude with real food, but, as Niels Bohr once said, "everything we call real [food] is made of up things that cannot be regarded as real [food]"
>>
>>60578125
In 20 years you will be irrelevant. Italy does everything you do, but better.

French food is bland half portions of things you would normally eat only if you were dared to. Just because a food is dressed up to look nice doesn't mean it is worth overpaying for, much less eating.
>>
>>60578125

I actually think french cuisine is much more interesting when fused with something else.

Creole cooking, for example is great.

French-itallian hybrids are wonderful.

But straight, traditional, totally pure french cooking? It's good but it's ossified. It taste the same today as it did 100 years ago. Where's the progress? Where's the new recipes? Why is it always the same old 'greatest hits' dishes, every time?

But that's my point. Every method in the 'science' of cooking that was pioneered by french cooking is now used everywhere else, and in every other cuisine.

So what more does french cuisine have to offer?

Everyone has already adopted everything good in the french technique, and is using it to make things with flavour profiles totally unlike anything french.
