I've lived in France most of my life, althoug I wasn't born here. I've been to Spain numerous time, but not deep enough in the country, or long enough to really have a precise opinion about it.
What I can tell you is that, like in France, there is a great variety of things from one region to the other, sometimes from one city to the other. Like big differences, in terms of people, weather, general ambiance and feeling, I guess.
I like France better, but it's my homeland, and I've spend more time here and seen more things here than anywhere else, so of course I'm biaised. Not saying Spain is shit, just that from what I know, I'm better here.

It may seem that with this spanish lazy stereotype Spain should be more relaxing, however I don't think it so. Actually I go every summer to the South of France to have a relaxing month in the middle of the Aquitaine.
I think, however, that is more a thing of city vs village. Either Spanish and France villages-towns are very comfy and relaxing. Big cities however aren't.

I live in Spain so I can only speak about it. Spain has many problems, mainly economic, apart from that is a great country. It's the best country IMO to socialize and party, keep in mind that, no matther where, every pub closes at 11pm+ and there is people in the streets until more than that. As I said, the real problems of Spain are economics. Unemployment is very high, and salaries are low (the cost of living is low too tho), however, if you find a good job, its a really good country.
I can't speak for France overall, but whenever I've liked it too. The south is very comfy, and the people are very polite. Landscapes are great and it seems to be a solid economic power.
