We do though. I'm a paki and I call myself asian. My family whose lived in Pakistan even refers to Pakistan as just "Asia".

Actually here when people say asian they pretty much always mean east-asian or SEAsian. I think people do know that india is technically in asia, but when we see south asians, we tend to just call them indians.
