This Tbh

History is the most important part

My little town is over 2000 years old, I can walk down the road and visit the 10th century cathedral with William the conquerors son, or I could go to the park where there are Roman ruins, or I could go and look at the building where the Humpty Dumpty story originated from

Nice meme - so if Boston put some native American recreation in Boston Common would it be considered historical? Because that's basically what you're saying with your little buildings and churches from 1950s rebuilds.

This place is more than 140 years old, Europe still has hundreds of old buildings ranging from a few hundred years old to a thousand... Don't try and claim all our historic places were rebuilt.. do you think every country got levelled in WW2 or something? the only places that got truly fucked and lost their history was Warsaw, Berlin and Volgograd (Stalingrad)

Tourist trap tier:
Lublana
Bled
Postojna (cave and nearby Predjama castle)
Slovene riviera

The above are all nice but they're the cliche options. In Bled, there are the lesser known canyons (Blejski Vintgar), the Soča river is incredibly beautiful, too. For landscape, see Lake Bohinj (Bled's bigger western cousin). A nice historical town is Ptuj, the oldest town that was already established by the Romans. Some other points of interest: Vipava valley, Prekmurje, Pohorje, Kranjska Gora... There's all kinds of things. What kind of landscape are you interested in, anyway? Mountains, hills, plains,...?

Most of them are pretty bad to live in desu. They are murder to heat and maintain. Also if you live in a house that is listed as being of historic interest you'll have the government all over you tits making sure that it is properly maintained and any renovations are in keeping with the style and construction of the house. A relative lives in a big old mansion in the countryside and when he wanted to replaster the outside walls the local authority made him use a goat hair plaster mixture that was 3 times as expensive and only half as good as modern products.

I mean the value. Land is expensive enough to justify building highrises in one spot, and a few blocks down the road it's suddenly cheap enough for single story residential buildings. It makes no fucking sense.

Many Euros, and especially Australians, have the belief that the largest city automatically "should" be the capital of local government, because in many cases that's what they're used to.

In burgerland we commonly deny what developd into the largest city the state government, to check their economic power. None of New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle, Philadelphia, etc... are the capitals of their state(s).

Of course there are exceptions. Phoenix and Salt Lake City (Mormon-land) are both the largest cities and the state capitals too. But none of the ALPHA+++ cities gets to have state government unless you maybe count Boston as ALPHA +++.

That isn't unheared of here though.
Amsterdam may be the national capital, but it isn't the capital of the province it's in (North-Holland) even though it's the biggest city. Haarlem (sound familiar?) is the capital of the province.

Nor is Amsterdam the biggest city in the country, that's Rotterdam.

Furthermore, even though Amsterdam is the national capital, the seat of genervment is in The Hague.

There's a city just like that next to where I live, actually, it's pretty cool.

Rarely go there because it costs 8 fucking euros - 16 in the summers - for the bridge to go to the island it's on (Ré), but it's a nice town.

Reminds me of how Washington DC is only the capital because it's smack dab in the middle of all the original states. Well, being near Virginia probably helped. At the time only Virginia or Pennsylvania had any good claim to the capital position I would think
