Why native English speakers living abroad always call themselves expats, not immigrants?
pic unrelated
Immigrants implies you're poor and moved for better economic prospects.
Expats implies you moved for the life experience and might move back home at any time.

Literally the same thing written using different words

Maybe the Queens English is different. I will simplify for you.
Immigrants = poor people
Expats = not-poor people
That's why people like to refer to themselves as Expats.
Immigrants intend to become citizens of the countries they move to. Expats do not as they don't want to pay income tax to the country their living in.

Because they don't want to be associated with the filthy poor immigrants. If you go tell them that it's the same thing they will get butthurt.

All immigration means is to move from one place to another, frog.
Because it's a cutsie way for rich or upper middle class people to remove the responsibility of integrating from themselves when they live in other countries. "Expat" implies you are just there to buy a house for your retirement or you are just temporarily working in the country, but since this makes you a contributor to the economy you somehow get to act like you never left your home country.
Also what the frog said.

are you retarded? Words can have implications or undertones beyond their dictionary definitions.
Calling yourself an Immigrant implies you've moved there for permanent residence.
Being an expat means you're only there for work and don't intend to stay there forever

Do you not get what implying means? Yes, they might have the same actual meaning but they do imply different meanings and that's why people prefer to use the words in different situations.
the retired brits in Spain are worse than immigrants, because they use services they never contributed to, don't integrate and keep housing prices high.
>>60335446
Because it sounds better; the word "immigrant" has a negative vibe associated with it.

Heard there's straight up towns in Spain that don't even speak Spanish.
English-speakers doing what we do best - refusing to integrate.
