It is estimated that the literacy rate in United States of Illiteracy is somewhere between 65-80%.

I find this absolutely mind blowing.

Its literally above 99%, t. Teacher. Also, again literally, only inner city minorities bring these figures down - and even then they are usually faked a bit to make minorities not look SO bad

Mentally retarded, vegetables, shitposters (incl facebook, twitter, etc) are probably all illiterate which is why it's not 100% for most countries.
>>
>Vatican city

Are you kidding me? They would NEVER accept someone as a resident who didn't receive a proper education.
>>
>>60305116
They probably just don't submit any data anywhere and no one really expects them to either. It's the definitive meme """country""".

I grew up in the ghetto and ive literally never met anyone that couldn't read. Crackheads dont count because they'll lie about anything.
>>
>>60305598
It might be talking about functional illiteracy, in many countries with high literacy there is still a surprisingly large portion of the population with reading and writing skills that are barely good enough to get by.
>>
I've never met an illiterate, and I live in East St Louis. I've met people who suck ass at reading, but never someone who cannot outright read. Must be Appalachia.

On my brief visit on america i noticed at least 1/5 adults couldnt read a sentence. They seemed to read singular words, but when confronted with an actual sentence, they would ask someone to read it for them.
At first i thought these americans had some sort of eye disease, but i found out it wasnt the case, since most of them wore glasses anyway
>>
>>60298628
Where does it say that?
No, really; where? I can't make sense of these damn squigglepictures.

This is pretty scary thing.

In Finland we have special news in national TV for people who cannot understand complex words or language. I guess that goes to same category as well.

It's actually pretty useful. You can just click 'simple english' and then you get the TL;DR of the article.
