The question I thought I was answering is
"Reasons to learn/to study a language"
>>
>>60283697
English: Native
French: I am basically literatue but cannot understand colloquial French and some of the regional accents such as Marseille. I have a feeling I could consider myself fluent if I lived there for a year.

Spanish: took a semester of it for an easy A and find it very easy to understand due to living my whole life in Los Angeles and San Diego. I could easily become fluent but I do not have any Latino friends and have little interest in their literature.

Italian: Took a semester in it for an easy A. I think it is the easiest language an anglophone could learn if you can get around the trilled R. Slightly easier than Spanish.

German: I would like to bring this up to the same level as my French for literacy but I haven't taken any formal classes in the language. After spending so much time in French and not getting the chance to use it I doubt I will ever make a similar effort to learn German. Maybe if I had a job offer in Switzerland I would take it, but I heard their German is different.

I like the thought of learning Russian, but visas are hard to get and they don't seem to like Americans, though I hate to generalize since most Russians I've met online and in the US are chill. I have a pretty sexy penpal from Moscow, after all.
>>

>Native language /languages you speak
Norwegian & English. No problem reading/understanding Swedish or Danish, but can't speak or write them without mistakes.

>Language(s) you are currently learning
German, with the hope of learning a bit of Dutch on the way.

>Reasons to study said language(s)
Objectively some of the easiest languages for a Scandinavian to learn. German-speaking countries (+NL) all seem wonderful, and we get loads of German and Dutch tourists here in the south, so it will come in handy.

>If you could choose a language to be your native one which one would you choose and why?
Faroese, special snowflake languages are nice party tricks abroad. Like the sound of it, and we share a lot of history.

I think I got the sweetest fucking deal in the whole peninsula, cause I can speak Spanish of course but through Galician I learnt Portuguese in a couple of months. The grammar is exactly the same the only thing I needed was to expand my vocabulary and learn the correct conjugations. I would be mad if I were born in Cataluña, or even worse the Basque Lands, because those languages are bloody useless.

True. No one knows how the real thing is supposed to sound and, thus, no one can pronounce nor speak it correctly. There have been some attempts at reconstructing its phonology, but none of them can be deemed accurate.

Swedish, English. Though since I've spoken English for so long online and barely used Swedish at all I've gotten incredibly rusty at the latter. Still, Swedish is my native language, but English is what I can actually converse with, without needing to use google translate every few words.
>Language(s) you are currently learning
None really, I'm just passively absorbing some Japanese. The odd word here and there and maybe a kanji or two.
>Reasons to study said language(s)
I like Japanese culture. Yes, not just anime, but the culture as a whole is pretty fascinating to me.
>If you could choose a language to be your native one which one would you choose and why?
You mean as a REPLACEMENT for my native language, meaning I unlearn my primary language, or I learn another language which I achieve fluency in? In case of the former, English, since Swedish barely does me any good. If it's the latter, Japanese simply because I'm a lazy cunt and actually learning the language takes effort, so it's easier to just wish I magically spoke it.

I'm a hermit who barely acknowledges the fact I live here to begin with.
I have no friends in real life and I don't have any Swedish friends online either.

How about you try basically not speaking a language for nearly a decade and then tell me how great your vocabulary is.

With this knowledge, suicide really seems appropriate

Don't you ever interact with people in real life?

You only have to pay if you want to take the classes they offer. But you can interact with the other users for free.

I didn't say I've COMPLETELY forgotten the language, I just can't remember a lot of words that aren't really fucking common.
Some examples: today I looked up what the words for government and impact were.
In 8/10 cases the longest any conversation that I have goes like this: hi, "would you like a receipt with that?" yes please, thanks.

For example: you?

I guess I'm happy with Catalan (and Spanish as secondary language). But having a english parent or something like that could have also been good.
