Eastern Germany has been fixed up pretty good due to the Solidaritätszuschlag, which is basically a money transfer from West to East, seeing as 40 odd years of actual Socialism apparently wreak havoc on economies.
The socio-economic divide is still discernible, but things are looking up. More and more people actually choose to live in East Germany, especially students, since rent is very affordable. Still, wages haven't entirely caught up to the West yet.
Regarding East German society, they tend to gravitate towards political extremes. After all, they were sheltered by mother Russia and then just spat out into a capitalist world over night, causing feelings of alienation and an inferiority complex
