There is a degree of royal marriage drama in EUIV, and it is historically correct. My country is the offspring of marriage drama and inbred children, so there is that. But the fact is that I am leading a dynasty, not a country, I want to be able to change my country into a certain direction and not always be stuck with the same dynastic drama llama forever. I played a bit of Europa Univeralis Rome on some other blokes computer, and they had a nice balance between dynasty and the ability to change government form. Thinking of buying the game too.

yes, there is, its modern nationalism and social sciences. But its not like in EUIV you need to be concerned with suffering of 3rd estate in 18th century France, you need to be concerned with Great Britain having claims on your colonies.
Politics - which is literally whole gameplay of EUIV - was always driven by dynasties and by individuals.

You have a point, a very big point I give you that but there were states which did not follow this. The Netherlands was a republic, so was Poland (kinda, asterixes included) the Teutons were a monastic order. The new faction system which I have yet to try out in EUIV tries to balance the power structures out a bit. Like I said more family drama would be much more realistic, but CK also has it's fair share of unrealism. I cannot say for sure about CKII since I have not really played it, but CK (which I did play a bit) gives the whole 'having claims on titles' thing as a much too static thing. The whole count>duke>king thing was much more 'vague' in real medieval politics and kingdoms did not have hard coded boundaries as they seem to have in CK. There is a bigger vagueness about noble family drama llama that ck tries to make less vague but thereby they lose a lot of the interesting dynamics. EUIV does not pretend to know where you got certain claims from, and leaves it up to you to imagine where you got it, giving imho the vagueness you need.
But also I don't want to game to end when my dynasty dies. Which is probably much more the reason for my disliking of CK.

Well yeah, CKII has its flaws too (i don't really play it, just tried few hours half a year back). but its still far more realistic than EUIV in terms of putting it as stories of dynasties rather than nations. Just imagine Habsbourgs, in EUIV terms, whole Spain, spanish empire, Austria hungary or habsbourgian netherlands would be called "Switzerland" or something.

well it is true at the time i explored it i couldn't yet reach America or greenland. But when i was in port and wanted to click on terra incognita, it said "right-click to begin exploring mission" so i expected it to do something, but the explorer just sailed in the province and didn't move further so i had to do it.

I don't really feel nationalistic. I love my country. I love its history. I love it nowadays. I love all our neighbors too. They have been here with us from the beggining and we experienced everything together. They are like brothers.
I love rest of Europe too. They made the environment in which we lived. They grew up next to our brothers and share history with them, sometimes forming it, sometimes being formed by it. But they have also always been there, they have seen the good and the bad times together with us. They are like cousins.
I also love muslims or russians. They were our foes for most of the history. We hated each other. But they have also always been here. Events happening there affected us. Events happening here affected them. We fought them in wars. We shared their suffering during plagues. They are like distant cousins.
I even love asian countries. They were far from us, experiencing different things, but we still shared some. Inventions from China affected Europe, European colonialism affected India. They mostly formed their own history. But they endured through those thousands of years same as us. They experienced wars and plagues, same as ages of prosperity, same as us. And they lived through it all. They are like neighbors.
And i even love new world nations. They are children of our family. Our cousins and brothers made them. Settling upon new land, they started from zero when rest of the world was far too advanced. But the little time they had just made them pay more attention to details. They learned our way, they learned our history, and they have become as good in enduring as we have. They are like our children.

They weren't worried about it at all and expected me to feel the same, but I'm just sitting there not really knowing what to do most of the time, and then they would chuckle at the weird, ineffective shit I did as if it was all in good humor.
Worst of all I was trying to play a wizard. In a high level campaign. Who used a bow. In 3.5.
And the more I fell behind with everything and the more they joked about it the more it wore away at my nerves, and they started to think I was some sort of intense, angry person instead of just recognizing that I was struggling to keep up.
We eventually got into this fight with some weird extraplanar guy (no clue what he was supposed to be, he was described like he was a human, but he was extraplanar) who kicked the shit out of everyone. For once, being ignored was to my advantage, because everyone but me got knocked out pretty quickly. I got a multi-round disable off on him and thought I finally had my moment.
Trying to be epic, I pulled out my bow and shot him in the head. Obviously that didn't kill him, so then I cast Banishment. Poof, battle won, and I was super stoked.
The GM is just silent, and I find myself confused all over again. What the fuck could possibly he his problem at this point? Is he mad that I managed to beat his OP encounter? So I asked him what was wrong, and he's like "Oh, no, nothing, I'm glad you beat the guy, you just did it in kind of a weird way" I ask him what was wrong with how I did it and one of the other players chimed in:
"Perhaps he's wondering why you would shoot a man, before throwing him out of a plane"
