Well, the Walloons only started to speak French recently. Before the war, only 1/3 at most of the Walloons spoke French.
Their original language, Walloon was also a Oil ("Wal") language like Paris-French, but much older, in fact, one of the oldest Gallo-Romance dialects. It was known as very hard to learn though, 1/10 of the words had Germanic roots, mainly from Flemish/Nederfrankisch, 1/100 had Celtic roots from Belgae days (Gaulish only disappeared in the 6th century).
