I love China but going there after going to Japan can only make me shed a tear for what could have been.
It's really fucking depressing when you compare the old/historical districts of Yokohama/Tokyo/Kyoto etc... to Shanghai/Beijing/Chongqing/Chengdu.

The reds really did a number over there.

the PRC has been keeping a lot of them as well, thankfully the people was more sane than the elites during the cultural revolution, but so much was destroyed, to give a very concrete example, they have a place in Chengdu called Jinli which is a "historical pedestrian street" that has existed for like 2500 years, except the government, made it so that everything there is stores and shit selling cheap souvenirs, the Taoist temple became a hotel and all the buildings were remade so everything looks fake.

There is no difference between that place and Disneyland in the end.

I visited Rome when I was 12 as part of a Eurotrip with my family and I can still remember it vividly.

>awe-inspiring architecture
>ancient ruins
>spooky catacombs
>phenomenal art everywhere
>all the food was delicious
>cats that ate spaghetti
>people could speak English and weren't rude like Parisians
>only had to take a cab once, could walk everywhere

Also I went to a gelato shop / general store near our hotel and the owner sold me a little switchblade for $10.

10/10, greatest city ever built and I'm not even Catholic.

Heat in summer is unbearable, shit isolation for houses, city is only beautiful in the cultural centres, which last for about 5 months before you get bored of them, only affordable rooms are western typed built in the 80's. You find some niche spots sometimes, too bad they're so far away from everything.
The city is quiet, that's a plus, but that means you need to preserve it, people tend to complain about it more than in other places in Japan.
Did I mention the heat?
>>
>>60008005
There's no such thing as too quiet. Many of the residential areas do feel a bit village-like, but you can jump on your bicycle and be in the bustling centre around 四条河原町 within 20 minutes if you live near Kyoudai
>>
>>60008031

>>
>>60006519

Only cities I've really visited (as in, actually got out of the car in) other than my hometown are Detroit and Dallas

You can guess which one was the lesser experience.
>>
>>60008110
Fair point, the heat is pretty bad. Then again, most of Japan is pretty terrible in that regard. I guess Kobe is a little bit better because the sea cools it off a bit, but if you really want not to die in summer you'd need to move all the way to Hokkaidou.
>>
>>60008089
Dancehall or Drum and Bass nights are always good Tbh
>>
>>60008185
i wouldn't say the heat is that bad personally. i think once you've got over the fact you're gonna sweat bucketfuls, which isn't something people in the west are too comfortable with, it's quite pleasant.

It was the only place in Vietnam that both sides agreed not to touch during the war. It has beautiful old chinese merchant buildings, some of which are over 400 years old.

>>
>>60007027
kek, it's a dismal, garish shithole pham.
>>
>>60008279
Have you been there in mid summer? The heat simply makes your head completely sluggish, and all you want to do is find the nearest air conditioner. The humidity makes sweating extremely pointless (water won't evaporate properly in high humidity) and makes it feel like you're walking in a temperature 10 degrees higher than it already is.
>>
>>60008185
Kyoto is especially bad with the mountains retaining the heat, or so I've heard.
But really, having been to Osaka today (Currently living in 衣笠 area), you can feel the difference, at least in term of humidity.
>>60008279
That may be, but most non-japanese people I know who also live here never got really used to it.

No, it's not very well known in Europe. I worked and lived in downtown Charleston for a year. I lived in the college area and had a fucking great time there. I really liked the old wooden houses and the old historical buildings, the bars, the people and the very natural beaches. I was living 10 minutes from the church where the 9 people got shot. I was kind of nervous about a chimp out, but everything was calm, except for one night when 50 nigger teens decided to run around my area and beat up white people. I'm not spanish btw, I'm Austrian.
>>
>>60008398
I'm half Japanese, I've lived there for a few years and visit frequently. I like the heat and the sun, as well as the orgasmic feeling when you go from the humid outside to an air conditioned department store.
>>
>>60008411
I guess right now it must already be getting a bit too hot.
There's a really nice walk from Kibune to the Kurama-dera though, that must be at a pretty nice temperature by now.
From Osaka you can take the Keihan railway to Demachiyanagi, and then continue with the Eizan railway.
I can really recommend that walk.
>>
>>60008506
I guess your Japanese half makes it just liveable for you then. Count me jealous.
