Anglo culture has been influenced far more by France than Germany, it's not a fair comparison just based on language. Actually you could use language to argue against what you're saying, we've borrowed a ton of vocabulary from French for words acquired over time, while many German words are inherited from the basic grammar, which just shows how much more France has actually influenced English culturally rather than just branched from.

English is absolutely riddled with Scandinavian words and grammatical influence. In fact, some scholars have wanted to reclassify English from being a west Germanic language to being a north Germanic language for this very reason.
