I've been reading into the Finnish model for education and all of their universities are more selective than most public universities around the world.
How is that considered a good role model for education when way less people have degrees because university is only for a select number of people in one of the smallest countries in the world?
Is it because they deny many foreign applications?

it's not the universities that are considered role models. It's the lower levels schools like primary/elementary etc schools for underage kids
It is shit, just like everything else related to Finland. Move along.

this
British and American universities are the best in the world
Finland is probably the worst nation north of the Siegfried Line.

why?
And I thought Canada was nice :(
>>59975308
the siegfried line runs north to south you retard
Finland is revered for its public schools not universities. USA has the best universities in the world provides you can afford them

If we look at it per capita then British universities are the best.
But most of the top 10 universities are American
Tbh it's understandable since it's not like Finland can have free education and the best universities at the same time
Exactly because of this, they are worried in teaching, learning, and applying; Not into distributing diplomas.

those meme university rankings you see being posted are kind of dumb because a major factor in the scoring is research output written in English lel
>>59975670
Rankings aside, a shit ton of R&D comes from americunt unis
>>59975378
You must be new to /int/.
Yeah, the universities here aren't the best in the world, but since I pay about 100€ per year for my electrical engineering degree and receive about 130€ of student allowance per month, I'm not complaining.
>>59975670
Fug, didn't even consider that
Still, universities that cost a shit ton of money to get into are probably gonna do better than free universities no matter what
>>59975709
yeah but it's unfair to compare research output between universities because most research output in Europe come from dedicated research institutions that aren't under some university umbrella

Finland is a good country desu. If for some reason I had to flee Canada and ended up in Finland I wouldn't be too upset about it, compared to many other places in the world.
>americans equate availability of higher education with quality
No wonder all degrees aside from ivy league ones are worthless.

Well it certainly doesn't create diploma inflation. For example even a bachelor's from a good field can get you a good job here. There's universities of applied sciences too that give out bachelor's. I find it actually pretty good that the top tier universities here are picky about who they take in.
