Basically a lot of wars with Denmark and Russia and bullying other countries around the Baltic sea. The idea since the 1500-hundereds has been that we should dominate the Baltic, preferable owing all land connected to it. Sweden became a major power in the 1600-hundereds but quickly lost that position because we simply didn't have the money and ,in particular, manpower to keep it up (coupled with some stupid mistakes and arrogance). Which ultimately led us to losing the entirety of Finland and Åland. The cultivated an attitude that dealing with the great powers and trying to be one one caused us a lot of grief and we'd be a lot better of tending to ourselves and to some extent our Nordic neighbors and so the Swedish neutrality was born and we haven't been to war ever since.
Although we didn't participate in any wars, we've been trying to peacefully participate with just about all countries. In fact our PM went to Cuba just after the revolution, which makes him the first westerner to have done that. Though peaceful, during the cold war our army grew to a ridiculous size, easily putting it in the top 10 most powerful armies. That's is unfortunately, as you probably know, very much in the past now.
