i studied computer engineering so this field made the most sense, it's mostly software, but i do get to hold a screwdriver and soldering iron and mess about with electro-mechanical stuff which is fun

there's the bare metal guys who go for assembly/C and obscure shit no one even knows about, they end up in the industry (the real industry that produces shit)
there's the .NET/OOP guys who go for Java/C# or some other high level language, they end up doing gruntwork for large corporations who cater to the state or business-to-business, not terribly interesting, but the pay is good
perhaps some mobile platform devs even have fun doing their apps
there's the web-devs who go for HTML/CSS/Javascript/PHP/*SQL, kind of self-explanatory i guess and i don't really know much about that field
