The Netherlands is an odd country, in fact i'd go as far as to say it is a country that perturbs me deeply. I do not hate the netherlands, I actually love it (though against my better judgment).

The problem with the netherlands however, is that it is harmonious place, but to an excessive extent. Its a place where life is ritualistic and clinical, a sterile country without scenery, instead a flat expanse where any semblance of originality or character is destroyed through universal adoption and duplication as part of the pervasive norm and uniformity.

This is not only a spatial observation of the monotony of this land, but also of the people, a measured and homogenous group. Amongst the dutch all deviations from the norm are measured, yes you can have a silly haircut, provided there is ample other people with it, yes you can like a certain type of un-mainstream music provided there is a general counterculture trend that goes along with it. It is a clean culture, mundane yet not moribund, a malaise of monotony.

Even their most heated and contentious issue is a contrived and pointless affair, a yearly debate where the exact same arguments are dished out even more enthusiastically than the last , in fact i feel as though Zwarte Piet only exists for the sake of having something to argue about, in a land where everyone agrees with one another.

The thing that disturbs me most about this 'country' (if such a thing exists in the way that we've previously conceived it) is that this is recognised, the maladious and boring place is infact celebrated on those virtues. It is this repetition which the word 'gezellig' captures

I say this full of admiration for the dutch, they are a successful land, however their success is rather bittersweet, in exchange for success they've sold any flavour and love from their land, they are truly automatons going through vain motions and meaningless expressions in a barren and moribund setting.

I pity the Netherlands and its delusion

Didn't completely read through your text, but I guess one thing is very important about the Netherlands
>flat expanse

I just recently been there and this kind of open landscapes really got me a little depressed, which is a sad thing, because besides all this the Netherlands surely are a beautiful and advance country.
Got me into thinking about learning Dutch. It's fairly easy for a German (and also the other way around I guess).

That is a pretty good description, what you say can for example be seen on google streetview, streets with rows of exactly the same houses next to each other.

It's kind of a German characteristic, that can be found in lesser amounts in some parts of Flanders too (mainly Antwerp and Limburg).

I don't like the Dutch, they're annoying, loud and plain rude.

A couple of days ago I was eating something in a restaurant, a group of Dutchmen came in and shouted: "Why are there only two people here? Is the food bad?" and continued shouting and harassing while they sat down. After the whole loud, boorish scene, clearly embarrassing everyone, they still ordered something, if I was the owner, I would have spit and ejaculated in their food.

When I was younger I was obsessed with the Netherlands to me it was a very multicultural nation filled with Dutch, Indo-Dutch, Surinamese, Arubans, Jews and Moroccans who for the most part got along and integrated.

They had gay marriage and Amsterdam seemed like a liberated city so save for Wilders it was great.

But then I realized that outside of cities the people are still rather conservative, politicians used drug tourism only when it suited their economy and they were wishy washy with the laws when things seemed too much. Opportunities seemed limited to non-whites and people immigrate for work especially for the young. Anti-Islam and this nostalgic idea of colonialism and empire flourished just underneath a thin veneer of liberalism.

So while I no longer study the language or wish to immigrate there I wouldn't mind a qt bf but yeah OP it's a tiny country, what you're saying about the culture isn't unique in small nations. Just move.

I regret to inform you that liberalism is a thin veneer almost everywhere in the world.
Because that's literally what liberalism encompasses, making it difficult for ideas like you mentioned to surface without warning.
>>
>>59206341
Entrenched multiculturalism can occur, Singapore seems to be a shining light for that for example. Mostly what I see in The West is merely the first step in radical inclusion and systemic change.

The Indos faced much discrimination at first but now look at them. They are just Dutch now, fully woven into Dutch identity.

The dutch are unique in a sense that we have a 'tolerate' culture, but not an 'accept' culture.
This way we were able to get rights for gays, colored people, because everyone tolerated it, and wasn't intruding their own life.
But because we've had this culture for so long, it's nigh impossible for the dutch to step over this line. Now that other countries are more going into 'accept' mode, NL receives a lot of pressure from the outside to do this, as well.
It isn't happening, and the veneer of liberalism became incredibly thin because dutch people already feel like they've done more than enough.
Add terrorism to the mix, and even that thin veneer is at risk of disappearing.

It's a hard time for all European countries, but NL is faring rather well under it, but actually that's because the country is letting the discussions happen, and far-right sounds cooler and more macho.
Although it's a good thing, the tolerance culture is in peril if the government doesn't remind its people why liberal policies are in place in the first place. The second world war is starting to just be too long ago for this, and the government can't seem to find a similarly strong reason to suppress far-right rhetoric.

I mean it's still not at all bad, as the discussion right now is just between the far-left and far-right. I fear however than when any (even without deaths it will provoke a reaction) terrorist attack lands on dutch soil, normal people are going start choosing sides and potentially divide the country on a more fundamental level. So far the AIVD is doing a pretty good job though.

And ye other countries can permit such a divide, but as a small well-faring country it's not something we can permit.

Pic kinda related, it's our queen in her teens.

Been living here for 3 years and have been traveling around Europe as much as I could

OP is a faggot, hey guy look at me using all these words I looked up in a thesaurus I'm so smart and it makes my points seem more valid.

Hell no, I learned to appreciate this place a lot after visiting Germany Italy Spain Greece Belgium and Portugal.

Maybe I'm biased because the city I live in is pretty damn cool, but the people here are the friendliest have met, the country is kept well maintained and they're constantly renovating shit that isn't even broken (just to make it better) all those other countries I've visited (left out Eastern Europe for obvious reasons) looked like slums once you left the city or if you exit on the wrong side of the train station. I feel gezellig as fuck here
