Isn't 4chan blocked in Mainland China?
No, likely because so few Chinese come to 4chan, 4chan itself isn't blocked. However, because Google services are throttled and the captcha is owned by Google, in order to post, Chinese posters must use a 4chan pass to bypass the captcha, as it never loads.Chinese IPs are also blocked from posting on 4chan without a pass.

Why has Japan and the four Asian tigers (South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore and Taiwan) been able to converge economically with the West (excluding mineral and oil rich countries, with are just anomalies)? Why is it of all the Third World nations, only China (and India, maybe) seem to converging with the West and coastal East Asia?

Compare it to the tepid performance of South-East Asia and Latin America, or the dreadful performance of Africa. What can they learn for East Asia success?

Anyone learning Tibetan here? I have an interest in but there are almost no resources. There's a field of study where they teach both Mongolian and Tibetan. And after I'm done with my actual studies, I think, I could try it for fun. Only not sure if it can be any useful. Like can it grant me any work without moving to Tibet? Or if I'd move there?
>>
>>59034152
They're actually not too bad. You should give them a try!

>>59034472
If you learn it to fluency it would maybe be useful for work opportunities. If you move there it'd definitely help. Routledge has a Tibetan textbook.

East Asian economies are sort of National Socialist, actually, the founder of the LDP in Japan described himself as such.

They run mercantile trade policies, support national industry, strategically develop based on a mix of central planning and markets, and most importantly, everything is dependent upon central bank credit quotas. For example in China the government often forces companies to merge so they can be more competitive internationally.

It's all very interesting, you can read: "MITI and the Japanese Miracle", a book written some decades ago. Describes the excellent planning involved in the growth of the Japanese economy.

Yes, Japan doesn't ban foreign products or anything like that, when I say support national industry, at least in the boom years the Bank of Japan would allocate credit windows to industries based on priority.

E.g. Steel industry needs to be more competitive and we want to grow its productive output = Higher credit window.

I've never been to the poorest regions but the village I stayed at for a couple days was quite comfy. There were about a hundred or so people, and they weren't starving or anything, but their only source of meat was the guy who would ride to the village every couple days to set a stall on his motorcycle. Plus you had to boil your own bathwater and there wasn't an internet connection. I mean, it's not a bad life but I wouldn't give up my life for it.

from my experience really depends on the people, motivation, investment and whether you have an aptitude to learn languages

it's like programming, no matter how much time some put in, they just can't think like a computer and never learn
i've also met people who've studied korean for years and years and years but they still speak their shit lonely planet korean, have to actively translate everything in their brain, can't form a sentence naturally and do it all with a strong foreign accent

btw korean learners, you should help and commit to this: http://area51.stackexchange.com/proposals/74083/korean-language

stack exchange is a q/a framework used for a bunch of topics (origin in programming)

I'm not affiliated in any way, I just want to see this shit going so I can learn more from other people's questions

thanks man, appreciate it
desu i've lost nearly all my non-korean friends due to investing myself this much and it gets a bit lonely sometimes. skating is the one thing that really kept me sane over the years. eager to relocate so i can start living again.

nowadays i just watch occasionally tv shows and stuff (no subs), but just because it's fun. i also meet up daily with a language exchange partner (30 min in english then 30 min in korean). nowadays my korean is p much fluent so i don't need the same effort as before, but i used to constantly have kbs tv in the background (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBoL4_WimT8), moved in with koreans, met up with koreans, went to korea whenever possible, spoke with korean friends, korean gf, studied daily words on memrise, studied daily from topik books i bought in korea, read webtoons, went to korean church (not religious), listened to korean music (hip hop mostly), etc.
a lot of it was forced and i disliked it, but kept going since i saw it as an investment
also i forcefully started thinking in korean, and nowadays i often do naturally

Are there any words/phrases in Korean that are pronounced like the English word "cancel"?

If so, what are they?; and what do they mean?
