I don't know about everyone else, but the memes are a lie when it comes to me.
My US history teacher was a commie, so he taught us all about how the eastern front was way worse, and the western front was hardly a concern for the german soldiers, since the eastern front was so bloody and shit. German soldiers would celebrate being sent to the western front, because we treated them better than the Russians did, because the hate was real there.
The year before in World history, my teacher was a veteran, so he wasn't about to downplay the how important the Soviets were to taking down the Germans. He respected them a lot. So we learned about them as much as we learned about our side of the war.
Basically, we are taught that Europe would have been won without us, but it would have been longer and bloodier, and that the pacific was mostly us, with a little help from other countries, but not much, because even Australia was busy in North Africa.

While we didn't win the war by ourselves, we lost the least industry, so at the end of the war, the European powers could not support themselves to well, but we could support them, solidifying ourselves as the leading power. Soviet Russia quickly caught up, because we hated them and didn't give them any of our marshall plan money, so they had to pick themselves up by there bootstraps and they were a real power then.
