Hey guys. How many languages can you use?
Especially if you are living in country that has some official languages, how many can you use them?
>>

>>
5, but want to learn more.

Being from an immigrant family has its pros sometimes
>>
>>58877338
What do you mean "use"?
I am fluent in Russian and Mari but can barely hold even a simple conversation in English.
>>
>>58877338
Only two, trying to learn and third and eventually a fourth.

Why are Russian and Portuguese so small lel. It's actually top 5-6 by amount of speakers.

Anyway 6.
Russian, Swedish (So i also understand Norwegian and Danish), Ukrainian, English, Polish, Belarusian.
>>
>>58877338
around 2 but I would love to learn plenty of languages for the qts and such
>>
>>58877338

I can read some Spanish but I can't hold a conversation anymore
>>
>>58877866
I'm planning to learn belarus, kinda as a gateway to other slav languages.

picked it because i read it's simmilar to russian and ukrainian, while it also has a polish influence. Could you recommend me anything to help me learn it?

Sorry for the question
>>
>>58877866

Ok, so i've found a book but it's in Russian. I also checked our Russian piratebay but there is nothing in English. So i'm pretty sure it's really hard to find any ENG-BEL tutorial, would you like me to send the book or?
>>
>>58877452
>>58877866
Oh!?
So, what language are you using for thinking?
>>
Spanish and english perfectly, i can also hold simple conversations in japanese because of what i picked up from anime, but i don't know shit about kanji
>>
>>58878778
When i speak English\Swedish i'm thinking in it but mostly Russian.
>>
>>58878712
Thanks, i'd appreciate it.

these are the websites i'm using so far, although not so much lately because i need to study for school atm.

http://mylanguages.org/belarusian_alphabet.php
http://www.101languages.net/belarusian/belarusian-vocabulary-lessons/
And Memerise a little.
>>
English and فارسی/دری
>>
>>58878778
Frisian, imo it sounds kinda awkward when i make myself think in another language, dunno why
>>
>>58878985
Yeah you can use memerise, duolingo (if it has it) etc and i'd also recommend podcast app.

http://rgho.st/8PGBHNBly here it is, i think you can use it with translator and if you will get Russian alphabet, it's not really hard for a scandinavian btw.
>>
Suomi, svenska and English, 3 it is
>>
>>58877338
One. I am going to try to learn Dutch in support of Geert Wilders. Keep on fighting, Netherlands.
>>
Only 1....
But I'm trying to learn two.

Btw, where did you learn languages?
>>
>>58879193
Thanks, i appreciate it.

duolingo sadly doesn't have it. A shame Belarus isn't more popular, seems like a good gateway language imo
>>
>>58879441
Most useless fucking language
>>
>>58879374
Various guides online (ie. yt vids, websites, etc.), I know of a site but it is rosetta stone tier, only good for alphabet
http://learn101.org/
>>
>>58879329
Why do you keep on fighting?
>>
>>58879441
Honestly i'd not recommend you Belarus language to start from, it's a sort of Skåne dialect in Sweden but mix of Russian and Polish.
>>
>>58879469
Whatever, mate. shouldn't you look after your 4 wives instead of being on an image board?
>>
3.

English, Swedish, Spanish

I can understand Norwegian and read Danish and Italian, which I'm working on studying for active use. I can say a couple phrases in Finnish but can't really get around easily.

>>
2
>>
>>58879801
Literally the less useful of all Slav languages
>>
>>58879801
Since i know the majority of slavic languages i'd basically recommend Russian.

Russian
+ a lot of literature\sites etc to start studying, ~300 mln of speakers, progressive and fun, really big amount of words and terms so you can generate you own ones.
- NOT really but hard to learn, need practice for pronunciation, not many of us know english good enough to help you etc.
Ukrainian
+ Melodic, old, you can understand some Belarusian and Polish what you can't with Russian, 50 mln speakers
- Villiage language if you know Russian, not really "good" grammar.
Polish
+ Old and fun, 45 mln.
- Harsh langauge and it's not only imo.

Short guide lol.
>>
>>58877338
2, Icelandic and English

studied Danish for like 6 or 7 years in school but can barely form a coherent sentence in the """"""""""language""""""""""
>>
Fluent in English.

Meh in Spanish.

Near-shit in Ancient Greek, Sanskrit, and Latin grammar. Decent with etymology and historical linguistics tho.

I'll give it ago, think i have a book about russian somewhere anyway. I have a ukrainian/russian mate living in aussie land, he could probably help. Worst that can happen is that i give up.

Saved a bunch of Russian memes from VK long long ago, maybe i'll finally be able to enjoy them by then. Thanks

As an Irish tourist, how would I be viewed as in Moscow?
I'm planning on going near the end of summer.

Seven. It's not that hard because I live in an area where people speak all seven languages. -tips-
>>
>>58880884
In Moscow you'd feel yourself great, especially in the city center. There is a lot of foreign visitors and also a lot of Russians who can speak English well enough. In Arbat Street there are few of my favourite Irish pubs.

idk how to do it on utorrent (I use deluge) but there should be somewhere you can add torrents via url, copy the Magnet URI and paste it into the box that pops up on utorrent

Torrents are great for learning languages, you can find huge packs of pdfs for most large languages. If you're looking for a specific title you can also go to http://bookzz.org/
>>

3. JavaScript, Python, and C++

Jk, French, English, and Spanish

I intend to learn more, but my next one will probably be a local dialect like Welsh or Breton. Wouldn't mind learning a Slavic language but it seems hard to find a teacher.

It's a little bit harder than Spanish. But whenever you finally get the pronunciations down it becomes very easy.

Spanish is really the easiest language I've learned. Things are pretty much straight forward; but I've gotten out of practice in it so now I mostly just speak French

Gotcha, my drunken friend
http://www.russianlessons.net/
Very basic Russian lessons, but the section on the alphabet is bretty gud and it gives great explanations of the cases.

http://russian.typeit.org/
Good keyboard for typing in Russian, phonetically based on the English QWERTY keyboard.

You could also torrent Rosetta Stone and use it in conjunction with everything else you have, there's a pretty simple version of the client and Russian lessons on TPB that's preinstalled so all you have to do is run the .exe files.
Also Duolingo and Memrise I guess? I'm not so sure how good those lessons are but at least it's something.

Create a deck, put every new word you learn into it, and study it every day. It's an online flashcard program using spaced repetition to help you remember words longer and learn them easier.
There are also shared decks that people have uploaded but I'd recommend just making your own.

>Heiðabœr af reiði;
>vǫ́n's at vinnim Sveini

það segir frá Heiðabæ sem var brenndur af heiglum að nóttu til
>vǫ́n's at vinnim Sveini

skil ég ekki alveg en sú seinni er lykilsetning í kvæðinu svo heildarmerkingin verður óskýr
>>
>>58883260
>>58882849
To add onto this, I would recommend using pictures instead of english words. Go to google.ru and paste in the word and pick one of the pictures. This is also helpful since a lot of times words can have multiple meanings that don't match english. Once you get good enough you can do fill in the blank sentences or definitions with pictures.
>>
>>58883690
allt í lagi. þýðingar (ekki mínar):

>Allr Heiðabœr vas brendr upp af reiði með endum; en þat má kalla, es hugðak, hraustligt bragð;
>vǫ́n's at vinnim Sveini harm, vask í nótt fyr óttu á borgar armi, es hár logi gaus ór húsum.

þ.e.:

Allur Heiðabær var brenndur upp af reiði með endum; en það má kalla, fannst mér, hraustlegt bragð;
von er að við vinnum Sveini harm, ég var í nótt fyrir óttu á borgar armi, hár logi geisaði úr húsunum.)
