That's what 'the Netherlands' means as well.. But it's incorrect in the current sense. We're the Kingdom of the Netherlands, but only because some of our overseas territories are considered seperate countries within the Kingdom (like Wales and Schotland in the UK).. The term 'Netherlands', or 'Nederlanden' historically used to refer to the whole of the Netherlands, including Belgium and Luxembough. But we split a long time ago, so the European part of our country is simply called 'Nederland' now... Not plural. So 'Netherland' would be a more fitting translation.

Not really... It's just not correct. There are 12 provinces in this country, and only 2 are called Holland. (North & South Holland).. People from the other provinces, especially ones with (relatively) strong regional identities like Friesland and Limburg do not like to be called Hollanders, because it reminds them of how hideously irrelevant they are. Especially the Frisians.

I'm not familiar with the specifics regarding Kazakstan, but I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume some Kazak olicharch uses the Netherlands as a tax haven to transport his wealth away from Kazak tax authorities, legally... That's usually the reason we're so high up on the 'investor' list for less-than-rich countries. On paper that money may seem like investments, but in reality it's your own money that made a trip around the world via the Netherlands and some funky tax-haven islands getting deposited back into the pockets of the oligarchs that sent it away in the first place.
