That's not how democracy works though. If it was then the EU would've changed name to the Forth Reich and German would've been the only official language a long time ago. If anything it would mean that T*rkey would have to adopt to European standards of freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of association and so on. We proper Europeans would've had more power over you than you over us.

Officially. But they still point at how EU they are and ask to apply. But they are told not to. Applying is not just sending a letter and rejected or not. Tha application has to be taken seriously and there have to be talks to even let it count. But the EU refuses any and all apllication talks flat out. And they should. Next up Libya, Tunisia and Algeria will apply and they will be a drain on funds even worse then Bulgaria and Greece.
