>Be Yuropoor
>Thinks your ethnicity changes once your born in a different country
>Gets butthurt when a North American or an Australian/New Zealander self-identifies with a European ethnic group
Nobody thinks that.
Ethnicity stays the same, people get mad when someone claims to be ethnic Irish when they got only 1/16 Irish blood
>>58835436
Even if they were 100% Irish, they know absolutely nothing about Irish history, politics or society.
So it is really annoying.
>>58835491
literally nothing to do with ethnicity.
Ethnicity is just genes, not state of mind.
>>58835547
I know, but even if they were genetically 100% Irish, they know nothing about Ireland, and then call themselves Irish.
>>58835491
Those hyphen Americans piss me off too
>>58835589
which is correct.
If I get amnesia tomorrow, I'll still be 100% Georgian
>>58835491
>Irish history, politics or society
So like the average Irish person in Ireland?
Lack of knowledge doesn't disqualify you from belonging to an ethnic group.
Nobody in the Balkans thinks like that.

>Ethnicity is just genes, not state of mind.
Ethnicity can be changed, it's not all blood. You inherit it from your parents, but you can change your nation. Many Croatian national heroes were Germans, Slovaks and Jews who changed their names, became Croats and joined the Croatian nationalist movement.

>they know absolutely nothing about Irish history, politics or society
They should have some knowledge but then again, there are non-Hebrew speaking atheists who are considered Jews and nobody minds their lack of connection with Jewish culture.
>>58835648
We only get a bit irritated about New Worlders for example saying "I'm German" when none of their ancestors lived here since the 1600s, when they're mixed with a lot of other shit (often Amerindian too), when they can't speak a single word of the language etc etc

you can change nationality, can't change ethnicity. Two different things
>>58835773
By that logic, I, a chicano that speaks a bit of German, am automatically German?
Du bist der größte Idiot

Nationality (nacionalnost) and ethnicity (etnicitet) are synonyms in Croatian unrelated to citizenship. And you can, that's how new ethnic groups are formed in the first place. Like I said, there are people who were born in non-Croat families and who later on called themselves ethnic Croats and are recognised as such by other Croats.
After all, there are the historical processes like Serbianisation, Italianisation, Hellenisation and others in the Balkans where entire populations were being converted into a different ethnic group.
