Hey /int/, /n/ here, hoping a Japanbro can help us out.

We are designing a cycling jersey, and we are considering putting 'Forever Shinkansen' in Japanese on the jersey (Forever Shinkansen is an /n/ meme; Shinkansen is a Japanese train).

We are wondering if 永遠新幹線 is correct grammar, and whether or not there should be a space.

Here's our project thread for anyone interested: >>>/n/951692

Thanks!
>>
you need the backwards e in there after forever and before shinkasen
yw
>>
>>58829238
I'm not sure what character you're referring to. Will you please paste it here as text? Thanks!
>>
永遠の新幹線

would be proper
>>
>>58829436
Thank you based anon!
>>
>>58829469
yw but i would wait for a proper japanese to answer your question
>>
>>58829436
>>58829529
Google Translate says that that would be 'Eternal Shinkansen', and it has 永遠に新幹線 as 'Forever Shinkansen'.
Are の and に both correct? Are they interchangable? What's the difference? Thanks
>>
>>58829384
>>58829436
>Eien no Shinkansen
This would translate as 'Eternity's Bullet Train' or "The Bullet Train of Eternity'. The first version is better if you mean 'forever' as an adjective.
>>
>>58829603
With に it would mean 'The Bullet Train to Eternity'

の is a possessive marker:
>AnonのTrain = Anon's Train
>>
>>58829147
the fact it already sounds awkward "forever + noun" to me aside, its correct. 永遠新幹線 sounds much better and dreamy than using ”永久", which is another word that means forever/infiniteness in japanese.
>>
>>58829642
>>58829736
>>58829851
Thanks! So the version in the OP 永遠新幹線 is correct?

Forever is being used as an adjective here, like 'Always Shinkansen' or 'Eternally Shinkansen'
>>
>>58829147
永遠新幹線, absolutely wrong.
and I cant understand the meaning.
even in English, forever shinkansen?
what does it mean?
永遠新幹線 is too much kanjis and make me feel the word is Chinese.
>>
>>58829912
I think it's the best option since "Forever (infinite distance) Shinkansen" is the name of your Strava group. It's not quite what you'd use in a spoken sentence to describe a bullet train running forever, but since you're creating your own proper noun it's acceptable.
>>
>>58829912
>jersey
I don't understand the meaning of this, but if you want to use 永遠新幹線 as a meme, I don't think many people can understand it.
It's not correct word.
If I say it, I will say ’新幹線は永遠に不滅です’
shinkansen wa eien ni fumetsu desu.
>>
>>58829912
its correct. i mean, it doenst have another choice lol. 永久新幹線 sounds very awkward and actually i cant come up with the equivalence of "forever" in japanese other than 永遠.

"永遠新幹線" sounds not realistic but decent. i wouldnt feel its strange if the name showed up in some japanese fictional medium.
>>
>>58829912
Then you want >>58829642 .
I agree with >>58830429 , without any particles it just looks chinese and sounds... inorganic. Like a machine translation, which it is.
>>
>>58830870

You should learn Japanese harder.

No.1
What are you trying to imply by 'Forever Shinkansen' ?
"Shinkansen is great, may it last forever" or just a specific, imaginary Shinkansen called the "Forever Shinkansen" like "Tokaido Shinkansen" or "Hokkaido Shinkansen"

No.2
Does it really matter if it sounds funny to people who can speak Japanese?
As long as it looks cool to the majority who can't?
There are lot's of Japanese people wearing T-shirts with weird English words and sentences that don't make sense
>>
>>58831399
Can't you even write Japanese?
It's hard to read roma-ji, if you can't write decent Japanese, stop pretending Japanese.
永遠新幹線 is grammatically absolutely wrong.

だからよ、フィクション的文法で必ずしも文法的な絶対的な正しさが要求されるのか?そもそも原文のforever + nounが英語的にみて既に十分fictionalだってのに

No idea what it means, pick one.

>永遠の新幹線
(the) Eternal Shinkansen
>新幹線は永遠
Shankansen is forever
>新幹線は砕けない
Shinkansen is unbreakable
>新幹線の風

新幹線よ永遠に is better.
It means "May Shinkansen last forever".

I'm pretty sure he wants to use 永遠 like 万歳

Since "Forever Shinkansen" in itself makes little sense in English, I see no reason for the Japanese version to make any sense.
永遠新幹線 without any spaces is an accurate translation. Good luck with your project!

>"Shinkansen is great, may it last forever" or just a specific, imaginary Shinkansen called the "Forever Shinkansen" like "Tokaido Shinkansen" or "Hokkaido Shinkansen"
The first one. Like, imagine if someone said "forever victorious" or "forever the greatest". That kind of forever. Synonymous with "eternally", and used as an adjective. And obviously the phrase should not be seen as a complete sentence.
>>58839346
I want it to be treated as an adjective.
