I love how every other country's food is assessed based on traditional home cooking and mom and pop restaurants, but America's is always judged on the processed garbage and chain food nobody I now even eats. That is the food for people too poor or stupid to have anything better. Maybe I'm spoiled with my selection of local restaurants but my town wouldn't even support any chain that didn't have the unique benefit of being 24hrs.
Side question: mexifags what do you think of American Mexican food? We all know it's not Mexican food, but would people think it was out of place if Pablo in the barrio served up fajitas you'd get in one of those cookie-cutter Mexican restaurants? Also, I wanna hear what you think about Chipotle. I don't even think that one pretends to be Mexican food but does it for into your national palate well?

I agree with the chili. I never thought "meat soup with spices and beans" wasn't particularly endemic to mexico tho so I figured that dish had some play. In Florida what I can get is usually served by Mexican immigrants, but as the other guy said, usually does come with a side of cheese, sour cream, and lettuce. I will say that Americans want their guacamole to be like mayo,which I find gross. I make mine thick (and a little peppery). Key is to puree it with a knife (in the bowl, use a shitty knife) and not a blender which turns it into "santorum"

Looks pretty similar to what you'd get at a restaurant here, but that steak looks like it's been grilled, whereas here it just goes on a stovetop. Thems the breaks tho.
Chipotle is pretty good. Its rice is cooked in lime juice and bacon fat so it's got a little flavor to it, and from there it's just beans meat and salsa. I had a friend from Haiti say it was very similar to the food he grew up with. Not sure if that's really accurate or if he was overgeneralizing.
