it's pretty interesting to think about the future, will the government be responsible for distributing resources? if so, everyone becomes a slave to the government having no other choice but to obey. so far people haven't had to really bow all that low to the government to attain resources.
I'm getting really tired of reposting this every week but the tl;dr is that socialism, like democracy, can only really come into being by using a wealthy stable capitalist society as a springboard. A successful society which requires less and less labor as technology improves is inevitably going to turn socialist if it is to survive. Might be too soon for many though.

Full on socialism will never work because free will and choice is what lets better options come out on top. Without a free market there is no competition or improvement or push for efficiency. The weakest links are obliterated by better businesses. Without a public sector to protect the free market, the market cannot exist.
