Why do Brits use both metric and imperial?

We're the only people intelligent enough to handle both.
In truth, custom for the most part. "Real" world figures -- ie, stuff that you estimate or use without need for great accuracy -- is imperial, like height or weight or distances. Anything we need to measure is mainly done in metric unless you're dealing with some old craftsman.

Because metric is better, but imperial is way too ingrained into people's heads to get rid of quickly. Most older people (40+) still tend to think in Fahrenheit though, whereas younger people almost never use it.
American and British imperial system have some differences though. No one here uses "fluid ounces" and no one in American uses "stone", British gallons are a different size to American gallons, etc.
