wifi chipsets can be a bitch depending on the distro. Some like Mint and Xubuntu immediately found mine while others like Debian required the .deb packages for it on the install media.
partitions and grub suck, no explanation there
permissions are good though. It means no one can hijack your pc even if you fuck up somewhere because they constantly require permissions. You can turn them off but it's highly inadvisable
