Spain. Las meninas is widely considered to be the best painting ever made. Spain's dominance in painting is as appearant as Austria's dominance in classical music.

>England
What are relavant artists nowadays, I think the last one was Giger and he wasn't that much relavant to be honest
>>58018172
France and Spain idk faggot
>>58018172
France and Italy probably. The Dutch were pretty nifty weren't they? As were Spain. England in there somewhere I suppose.
>>58019335
It's only good because the painter appears on the painting. I like his Crucifixion more, but it seems to me that he is mostly overrated (his Venus is okay though).
>>58019324
Picasso spoke French and painted in France most of his life. Im not sure you can consider him Spanish, since he adopted French nationality as soon as he could.
>>58019364
I enjoy Adrian Ghenie and Nicola Samori, but I don't know much about contemporary painting.
>>58019335
Don't greentext England please. I love the Pre-Raphaelites.

He moved to France to expand his carreer and to run away after the civil war. Leonardo Da Vinci lived in France too and that doesnt make him French

Composition means you can have shit backgrounds as long as the foreground is great ?
>>58020031
There are still very good painters around, bruh. They're just pushed out of the limelight because modern day progressives can't stop wanking over "avant-garde" postmodern painters.
The only reason shit like an urinal torn off a wall is considered art is so the smug, progressive upper classes can pat themselves on the back because they "understand" something the masses simply "doesn't get".
Be aware, I'm not bashing abstract art as a whole. I'm bashing the post-modern bullshit. Look up any art critic and see if he has something intelligent to say about "who's afraid of red, yellow and blue?". Their anal-ysis will always come down to "It's daring and goes against the grain" or "you just don't get it!". That's because there's nothing intelligent to say about it. Compare the great classical painters, whose paintings you can debate on for hours.
That's also why attending art school nowadays is a waste of money and time: art is no longer about color theory or composition, it's about "going against the grain". The problem is that there is now no grain left to go against, and actually conforming to the rules of aesthetics is what makes you a reject.
