Here's the foundation, shared with Europe:
Traditionally western values were the four classical virtues of justice, wisdom, courage/fortitude, and moderation, to which were added the Christian virtues of faith, hope, and charity.
The aftermath of the French and American Revolutions brought us:
>Freedom of Association, Conscience, and Expression.
>Security of tenure and property ownership.
>Equality before the law.
>Division of political powers (legislature, executive and judiciary).
And for Americans specifically, add in a crave for exploration, land cultivation or conquest (in the form of Manifest Destiny, and later on the American Dream).
That's my take on it, not sure if it paints a complete picture, but I think it includes the core principles.
