Our post-rock is good, but in a different way. We have Stereolab, Talk Talk and Bark Psychosis but you have Slint. Mogwai is the only band that really sounds like GY!BE. Seeing Mladic live was one of the best things I've experienced in music.

Definitely recommend NOTM. The entire album was performed on an electronic drum set by Zach. Literally every sound (save for vocals) was triggered by him which is pretty incredible. Also the entire album is made up of Björk samples.

dude what. they're professional, they all play well and everything, but to say that a band whose entire purpose of existence was to write songs about unrefuted love to teenagers in an age where the pop music industry was starting to expand and find all its market niches has "actual drive" is ridiculous. have you ever listened to something like husker du? a band with completely original takes on the same subject, with real dynamism, real actual drive, real honesty in there. even a band that purposely tries to sound bad like flipper sounds like it has more drive than the smiths. even in british music you had stuff like new order coming out - bands that were written about in punkzines just like the smiths, and even had a previous fanbase to make sure they would make a buck - that still sound with more drive. idk what else to tell you other than to look at the fanbases - in the smiths you will find a fanbase filled with people with no idea about music. the smiths were first and foremost a band that talked about depression with no special merit in an age where bands were taking depression and all kinds of frustrations to huge extremes.
