Vacation, but I try to stretch it as long as possible. The Himalayas are beautiful, but have some really shitty tourist spots that you'd best stay clear of, or go during off season if you absolutely have to. Peak tourist season = trash everywhere.
The beaches are a sun burn hazard, yeah. There are also mountain ranges in South India that I've heard are really good, but have never really been to.
