Friendly reminder:
None of you 'friends' know anything about Slavs or Eastern Europe. You are basing your opinions on literal 90's meme pictures, which were meme pictures even in the 90's. And more importantly, these pictures target lowest of the low (bydlo's, tracksuits, squatting, commieblocks and cheep liquor).
About the word Slav, it has nothing to do with English language, because Slavs named themselves that before they even knew English language existed. It comes from Slovo, which means "letter", so "Sloveni" means "literate people" or "people capable of writing/language".
Slavs called their first neighbors, "Nemci" (word for Germans in all Slavic languages), which literally means "illiterate people" or "people who can not speak" because their language sounded like unintelligible grunting.

South Slavs are usually darker than other Slavs.
West Slavs have more german influence.
East Slavs have more Finnic/Scandi/Balt influence.
