>>
>>57603802
That's chill desu. Anyway, I've traveled a few times to Scandinavia to visit friends and family, though mostly Sweden and I'm half Swedish. I probably don't have anything to share that an actual Scando could himself share, but I mean, I like Scandinavia well enough. At the same time though, it feels like a bit of a deadend. Those more ambitious that I've known felt an urge to leave the countries for more exciting pastures abroad.

Very normal

>Frozen pizza
most people eat it when they have little time to spend on dinner, or are just lazy
most common to students, as I have experienced

>What's the public's view on American and Americans? What's yours?

The publics view is somewhat positive, but young people tend to have antiamerican views, but it's just normally a phase before one realize the state ofe the world, but thats just from my view

my own view is that we need USA atleast as a member of NATO, as we have Russia as a neighbour and our own army is very small. Im not very negative to Russia, I think it is a fascinating country, but I think it's unpredictable too.

I myself used to be antiamerican a a teen, but I'm ashamed of that now
>>
>>57603881
Well I know lots of Scandinavians move here which I guess America is a pretty cool place. I used to want to travel to Sweden but now it seams scary there. I world like to meet more Scandinavians, they seem like cool people though I've heard it's a bit racist up there. Not that I have anything to worry about.
>>57604073
Yeah, your drunkness shows. Anyway, That's okay, I was raised by a antiamerica Americans. Russian and Norwegian accents sound a like to me tbqh, and lots of Americans steriotype Norwegians as Russian steriotypes, so like as packing lots of guns, being withdrawn or self-centered and being raging drunks. How does that make you feel?
Also, so you think you would like to move to America :3? Are you a NEET or are you working/in college?
>>
>>57604403
>I used to want to travel to Sweden but now it seams scary there.
Neah, I don't think it's so bad. But I live in Los Angeles, so I have different standards. It's certainly not as safe as it used to be, though.

>I've heard it's a bit racist up there. Not that I have anything to worry about.
Who told you that? In my personal opinion, no, but some people would argue they're quite racist and just grind their teeth to a grin. Like the Japanese. But racism from western Europeans is the least harmless thing imaginable. It's not like they'll treat you any worse. They'll just be scared of you on the inside, if they're actually racist.
>>
>>57604403
> Russian and Norwegian accents sound a like to me tbqh, and lots of Americans steriotype Norwegians as Russian steriotypes, so like as packing lots of guns, being withdrawn or self-centered and being raging drunks. How does that make you feel?

well, atleast we that are not living in Oslo are somekind of withdrawn
the part of norwegian and russian sounding alike is hilarious to me
I don't know of that selfcentering parts, Ive heard that we tend to be welcoming, but I don't really know.
The thing I know is that we like to have some personal space, like if we shop and a sekller comes up to us we tend to be very uncomfotable and just wish they will disappear

>Also, so you think you would like to move to America :3?

that sounds really comortable
I kind of know that your country is very diverse in populations like towns and cities
I would have to live in a town then, the thought of living in a big city is terrifying for me
>>
>>57605084
Well I was amazing seeing how far it stretched in the air plain, it looked like the city went on forever. It made me feel bad for not being able to speak spanish, most everyone who helped me spoke little English. I had a very good beach experience, something you can't get on Washington beaches. Everyone I met was friendly, though the gap between rich and poor people was concerning and I watched a sleeping old homeless man get hassled by cops. It's a very beautiful city with a wide verity of cultures but it was very hard finding healthy places to eat. I also didn't like the coffee there, I should've just brought my own bag of Tully's.
>>57605244
City's can be fun to visit sometimes, like Seattle is a lot of fun for just walking around and looking at art but I wouldn't want to live there either. Cities scar me to fampai. I actually live right next to the Capitol city of my state and it's not really a "city" at all. In fact it's super beta, but even then I only really like visiting. My favorite vacation stop is Quinault, sounds right up your alley too.
Also, be careful. Drinking to much is bad for you, you're gonna get a kidney stone or something. Are you drinking for fun or are you /r9k/?

Also, be careful. Drinking to much is bad for you, you're gonna get a kidney stone or something. Are you drinking for fun or are you /r9k/?

i hav e regurally drinked almost every weekend since christmas, but the last 3 weeks ive been sober
a friend called me tonight and we met a couple of friends and just drank to become drunk at his place.
we tried to get us a driver to drive us to the closest city for going to clubs, but no one would/could
my reasons for drinking is to be social desu, thats kind of the norwegian standard for the people before they become like 40 years old
i know drinking too much isnt good, so i want to saty off every once a weekend, its nice to have sober weekends too
i really have to go to bed now, it's 7:33Am here now, it was nice to talk to you americanon

Yeah you mong. Danish Norwegian and Swedish are just dialects of old norse and are intelligible between each other. They share same ancestors and history.
>>

Iceland as a sovereign nation with its own identity and not as a settlement goes back to 930.
>>

>Danish Norwegian and Swedish are just dialects of old norse
le linguistically dubious statement
>>
>>57610723
how is it dubious? Old norse is vastly different to modern skandi languages but all 3 share same roots
>>
>>57610754
Saying they are a dialect of old norse is dubious.
>>
>>57610674
>Danish Norwegian and Swedish are just dialects of old norse
So is Icelandic and Faroese, are they Scandinavian too?
>>57610714
>Our national identity is much older than the Netherlands
Not really. Frisians and Franks have lived here since before Roman times. In the 9th century, the Franks conquered the Frisians, and the Netherlands was born. If the Norse hadn't sacked Dorestad it might've been earlier.
>>
>>57610674
Calling them that is like saying Spanish and Italian are dialects of Latin.

They're separate languages that have a long history of development from Old Norse.
Icelandic is a modern dialect of Old Norse.
>>
>>57610601
The term Scandinavia is usually used in a cultural context. Sweden, Norway and Denmark have a long history of killing each other and now and then being friends. They also are linguistically, culturally and in societal matters very alike. Now the term Nordic includes also Finland because we have a lot of influence from Sweden, especially in the west even if you are not a Fennoswede. Also we were part of Sweden for 500 years.
>>
>>57610796
The national identity of the Netherlands wasn't born until the 1800s.
Burgundy, etc. =/= the Netherlands
>>
>>57610801
It's also inaccurate to say Icelandic is a dialect of Old Norse. What is accurate is to say that Icelandic split off later than Norwegian, Swedish and Danish. Icelandic has a huge difference in phonology to old Norse.
>>
>>57610796
>So is Icelandic and Faroese, are they Scandinavian too?

Except those are not intelligible with swedish/norwegian/danish

>>57610801
its irrelevant really, the point is that all 3 languages are just dialects of some other language
>>
>>57610796

Yeah no shit. Most countries didn't exist as a nation before modern times.
Then again I think Frisia and/or Francia counts, even though Francia went on to conquer Gaul.
>>
>>57610907
> Just like Italy did not exist even as concept until recently.
Well, that's also wrong but Italian national identity began to exist only in modern times (18th and 19th century)

The concept of Italy existed since ancient times, was a point of contention in medieval and renaissance times. A lot of our medieval and renaisssance literature focuses on the concept of Italy and foreign invaders in Italy.

Seems like a pretty logical progression.
>>
>>57610983
Or national identity existed since 930 when were the Commonwealth of Iceland, which is my point. Our modern form certainly did not come until recently, but our national identity as being Iceland has existed for over 1000 years.

Whereas the concept of the Netherlands being the Netherlands is new. It used to be Frisia and various other things as you said.
>>
>>57611113
>Whereas the concept of the Netherlands being the Netherlands is new.
Relatively, I guess. The Dutch Republic is a 16th century nation state afterall.

I think he means Italy as concept of a nation, not as a peninsula.

Yeah, that's indeed kind of true. We used to call ourselves Duitsers/Dietsers (Germans, to the point it's in our anthem) or Franken (Franks). Our language is still formally called Frankish. The fact that belgium exists also makes it more difficult, since many of our oldest cities are in Flanders.
>>57610968
Oh what's this? Fryslân libbet!
>>
>>57611174
That's not the case for most of recorded history. Of course before the Roman expansion the Italian peninsula would have been inhabited by Italic (Latin, Oscan-Umbrian, Aquian, Aborigines and everything in between) and non-Italic (Etruscans, Greek) tribes, but after the expansion, the wars of the Socii and roman citizenship being granted to the province of Italia, a common identity is bound to form. In the high middle ages the concept of a shared culture is even more remarked by contemporary authors.
