Depends on the private school but on average, they're better than public schools. You're pretty much guaranteed a spot at an Ivy or other top school if you attend an elite private. Less elite privates are good for building connections but they're not really a huge step up from public schools.

We also have selective public schools called magnet schools that are on par or better than many private schools education wise. You have to either test into them or get a voucher through a lottery, and they're completely free.

have you ever looked at the admissions data for private high schools at all? even at the top of the top schools there is a huge population of morons who go to the state school. just because people are rich doesnt mean they are smart. that being said, elite privates do have much higher percent of students who go to ivy's and top schools

oh, well here your admission to college is completely based on your grades, even though our high school partners with Yale, King's college, etc and can get you an admission there.

It is though, as it pretty much guarantees that the school can't be shitty. When my parents moved my family in 2002, they thought me and my siblings would end up at a decent high school. Turns out they were wrong and I'm fucked as a result. Had they been sending me to a private school, the odds for it turning out to be bad would have been way lower as all private schools are held to a standard.
Here in Mexico is the other way around. Public institutions are the best of the best.
The USA has excellent public high schools but they are very selective. NYC has several schools of that sort.
In Australia the private schools really dont do that much of a better job to be worth it, our public education system is decent. I guess they might give some connections but for an average tuition of 20,000 it really isnt that worth it

Pay dosh to get guaranteed good grades and a diploma. Public schools are where the competent go.
