No, "lo siento" is for any situation when you need to say sorry. "Lo lamento", "Quiero pedir disculpas", "mil disculpas", could sound more, how you say, truer? respectful?
"Mil disculpas" should only be used if you think you screwed it hard, though. (lit. means "one thousand apologies")
