How is it that a country which lost two world wars, had their cities bombed to shit, and had to pay out millions in war repatriations somehow manage to be the single dominant economic powerhouse of Europe with their thumb underneath every other European country half a century later?
>>
We're a fairly stubborn people with a tradition in science and engineering (at least in modern times).

That and the Marshall Plan. Thank you Big Strong Americans!

/pol/ Tier answer: We just are that awesome.
/his/ Tier answer: After 1945 Germany became a frontier state and thus was helped back on ist feet with the Marshall Plan. Being under the NATO umbrella and only partly an independent country Germany could make a lot out of this situation and recover quickly.

Half of Germany's WW2 debt was erased, actually. Germany in general got very good terms for the destruction it caused in Europe during WW2.

Please, someone explain this German dominance of Europe. I need help understanding why the ECB can repeatedly make hugely important policy decisions in the face of strident German opposition, if the Germans are dominant.

The life of an /int/ Germanboo:

>wake up
>see the tiny Balkan countries and even mini-Germany (Austria) do the opposite of what Germany told them to do
>notice that the Germans opposed the most important Eurozone economic policy development this decade - quantitative easing - yet it happened despite their opposition
>realise Merkel has been begging the EU for several months to respect Schengen but everyone's ignoring her and closing their borders
>watch the Germans waste the last remnants of their political capital on a deal with Turkey that pisses off the rest of the EU and will fail anyway

Conclusion? Germany is dominant and all the other countries are under their thumb!

>>57330012
A smaller per capita GDP than the UK is "good enough"? I thought Germany was meant to be an economic powerhouse? That's what the good folks of /int/ told me.

Surely the powerhouse meme doesn't come from "muh cars" (pfft, who needs meme industries like aerospace right??) and a larger population of people much older than the EU average? Surely not!
>>
>>57327170
Germany's per capita GDP isn't all that impressive. Their economy is the largest in Europe because they have the largest population, that's about it.

You might as well post "I'm a stupid retard" and close the tab, it would be a quicker and easier way to arrive at the same destination. Let's unpack what you're saying.

- Investing in the high-growth Asia-Pacific makes us a slave

- Bringing the Renminbi trade to London and deepening ties with the East Asian financial hubs makes us a slave.

- Due to the latitude of the UK, it's not feasible to launch rockets into space on the majority orbits because we're too far north, the rockets would need to exert far more energy than they would nearer the equator (because of the momentum difference). Therefore we launch our satellites from French Guyana, India, and the Russian launchpad in Kazakhstan because we have a world class satellite industry and we need to get them into space somehow. This makes us a slave!

In the meantime we're building a British spaceport for spaceplanes and developing a British spaceplane so we can launch without needing rockets. I bet this makes us a slave or US puppet or something.

This Germany dominates b.s. is just the other countries trying to find an excuse for their terrible performance. Germany actively tries to not dominate, because they have an inofficial policy of being beta.

We have to pay countries nearer the equator to launch our satellites due to the latitude of the UK. I'm confused why you're banging on about this when it's due to our location in the world more than anything else.

>Oh WOW! Another space-plane, Im sure this one is going to succeed where hundreds of others fail.
There's never been a UK spaceplane before, and how do you think SpaceX produce proven designs? Do you think they appear out of thin air?

Anyway it's nice to see you're so optimistic about the UK's effort, because the ESA and USAF have also tested it and think it would work
http://sen.com/news/revolutionary-rocket-engine-passes-u-s-air-force-feasibility-test

But who cares about the USAF's opinion right? Hahaha what experience does the US Air Force and European Space Agency have in advanced flying things?! Fucking amateurs. Fuck them. You, a random anon on a board for Chinese girl cartoons, are more qualified to give an opinion on the Skylon spaceplane.

Do you have any idea how many 'hopeful' space projects there have been?

Even the Skylon is based off of older derivative designs that eventually failed. There is no reason this one is going to be any different.

Even now they are struggling to find investors, who have/were flocking to SpaceX.
