From a top five perspective I'd say
1. Subutai
2. Khalid ibn al-Walid
3. Alexander the Great
4. Tran Hung Dao
5. Marcus Agrippa

>Hannibal
>not Scipio Africanus
Anyway
Think of how neat it was to be a general back then
If you just figured out one advanced military maneuver you could beat most of the people around you and beyond

The fact that Scipio is only known for beating Hannibal should be tantamount to Hannibals greatness.
Alexander, lol at the rest

He's known for destroying both Carthages too :3

he led oliphants through the snowy Alps; OLIPHANTS!

Did they share the load?
Khalid ibn Walid, dubbed "the Sword of Allah" by Muhammad. Look up his battles against the Persians and Byzantines, it's crazy. He fought against Muhammad for a while and even beat him in battle, but then converted to Islam and he's the single biggest reasons why Islam spread so fast in its infancy.
Some of his quotes, or quotes about him:
>Submit to Islam and be safe. Or agree to the payment of the Jizya (tax), and you and your people will be under our protection, else you will have only yourself to blame for the consequences, for I bring the men who desire death as ardently as you desire life.
- Sent by Khalid to the Persian Monarch. Of course Khalid blew him the fuck out eventually.
>Is the standard of this army a black one? Is the commander of this army a tall, powerfully built, broad shouldered man with a large beard and a few pock marks on his face? Then beware of fighting this army.
- A Byzantine priest talking about him.
>You were better than a million men, when the faces of men were downcast. Brave? You were braver than the tiger. Generous? You were more generous than the unstoppable deluge flowing between mountains.
- His mother eulogising him.
>The fiercest and most successful of the Arabian warriors.
- Edward Gibbon
>What an excellent servant of God: Khalid ibn Walid, one of the swords of Allah, unleashed against the unbelievers.
- Muhammad
Muslims revere him but other than that he's relatively unknown, I didn't know about him until a few years back and I've been fascinated by military history for about a decade. Pic related are his last words (I think).

Subutai was Genghis' main strategist, even though Genghis is still top-tier, it makes more sense to place Subutai higher.

Cao Cao. He did nothing wrong, btw
As much as I enjoy living in modern times and the all the comforts that come with it, it still saddens me that we will never get to witness large-scale battles/sieges like in the ancient/medieval world.

>you will never live to be a miserable peasant who gets plucked from his horrifying and boring life in a mud hut to be killed in a stench-filled, disease-ridden battlefield against some distant royal you never heard of before
