Let me start:
>Happisburgh
>pronounced as [HAYS-bruh]

So how many generations to I have to consume bacon and crisps for to fuck up that royally, chaps?
>>
>two Ls make an I sound

The entire Tibetan language.

>So if you see Tibetan transliterated directly on the basis of what the letters stand for, you'll see the word for "accomplished" spelled bsgrubs but you'll hear it said like drup. There's a school of Tibetan Buddhism that is spelled bka'brgyud that's usually rendered in English how it's actually said: as Kagyu. Have you heard of the Buddhist scholar Chögyam Trungpa? The Tibetan spelling of his name comes out as Chos rgyam Drung pa.

Also, Mongolian

>In Mongolia, the Mongolian language is now usually spelled reasonably phonetically using the Cyrillic alphabet. But Mongolian speakers in China still use the old Mongolian alphabet, and the pronunciation has slipped far away from that. The word for "coal," spelled like neguresu, is pronounced like nuurs. "Goat," spelled imaga, is said as jamaa.

English is the most fucked up language
>>

This. Even more silly though. And Britain is full of those kinds of things, from Worcester and all the other cesters like Gloucester..

As for Dutch, it's pretty phonetic, so most things sound the way you spell them (especially if you're aware of Dutch vowel-combinations like oe, ou, ij, ei and ui which have specific vowel sounds in those combinations) but foreigners still struggle with place names like Scheveningen and 's-Gravenhagen (more commonly known as 'Den Haag' these days) or 's-Hertogenbosch (aka Den Bosch)

https://translate.google.nl/?hl=nl#auto/nl/'s-gravenhage.%20's-hertogenbosch.%20scheveningen.

Most foreigners cannot into our G/CH sound.

gakkou (school) 'guaku kau'

Or at least [woosh-ter], if you're Sean Connery
