It's really nice in the summer, as long as you have a cabin and a long vacation. You can spend most of the summer swimming, taking a sauna, picking berries, grilling, drinking with friends, etc at a comfy cabin. Incredibly relaxing, and no other people in sight.

I'm not even sure I don't follow Finnish news. I think they made it so the government subsidizes private healthcare so it's able to compete for customers from the public healthcare system. We know what will happen to the prices after there's no more public healthcare. I keep telling people to not fucking buy those s-group products even if they're a few cents cheaper for now but they wont listen. Or the awful Coop garbage. At least we still have VR, or Government's Railroads in English. But I'm not sure how much that is still owned by the government. Rail passenger transport isn't profitable in a small population density country so it's very fishy it's partially private. Then thanks to EU regulations Alko (gov alcohol monopoly), and Ray (gov gambling monopoly) aren't allowed to make profits (like maybe a part of taxes could be paid that way) and instead they donate the money i don't know where.

VR-Group isn't government business. Sure, Finnish state is majority shareholder but it still functions along the same rules as other private businesses.
VR suffers from major problems because Finnish weather is poison for railroads. Not all problems are due to VR because VR doesn't own the tracks: Liikennevirasto is responsible for maintenance of the railroad network and they "own" them.
Not to mention the fact that it's not profitable business to run trains. VR has shitload of expenses in just to maintain their equipment which are aging fast.

Medical firms =/= hospitals/healthcare.
The pharmaceutical firms, universities etc. get payed for their products in a public system (just as in a private one) the only difference being that the public healthcare system has more negotiating leverage compared to the mixed system employed in the US.
So I disagree with your assumption that medical research would diminish in a public system. There is profit to be mode in providing Finnish hospitals with equipment and drugs they need.
Also look at how the pharmaceutical expenditures are way higher in comparison to Finland. This is because the private pharma companies don't have to negotiate as hard with the health service providers as they do in Finland.
The American system inflates costs due to the way it is structured around insurance. The hospitals increase prices to make a profit and also pay for the equipment medicine etc. they buy from the medical industry fully knowing that it is the insurance companies (and the state/federal government) that have to pay the bills.
