minimum wage varies by state here. the federal minimum wage is $7.25/an hour but some states still pay lower, I think as low as $6.25. I think this is somewhat accurate for the United States.

80 KB, 1365x483
We have highest minimum wage out of all postcommie countries, but i am not sure that it is a good thing. Anyway, life on minimum wage is practically impossible here.

Minimum wage after tax is now around 1400 zł. If you have your own apartment or live with parents, you can survive on it. But if you had to rent a room, it would cost you 600 zł, you would have to spend on food / month 200-300 zł, it would be a vegetation rather than normal life.

People who earn minimum wage here are only those who don't have to rent, own/share apartments with others, and work as supermarket-guards, do student-jobs like handing leaflets on streets and so on.

I never worked for minimum wage in my entire life but maybe it's because i live in one of biggest cities in Poland. Anyway, i heard that companies hire Ukrainians for wages even lower than minimum, so it must be a total hardcore.

>>
So are the unions non existent in countries with minimum wage then?
Because here we don't have minimum wage because government doesn't want to have any say in it. It is up to workers and employers to decide between them the best contracts.
So while we don't have law mandated minimum wage (but the law says: There must be compensation for work), and unless agreed otherwise, the employee can always just ask for the minimum what the unions have decided. Though young people (like teenagers selling ice cream) get cheated on quite a lot.
>>
>>56974530
>So are the unions non existent in countries with minimum wage then?
We have unions, they want better wages, easier working hours... the usual shit. But we also used to have a 3-way resolution between wages and hours and stuff, called the National Wage Agreements. I think we were the first to introduce the idea in the 80s. It makes for a very stable industrial climate, easy for foreigners to invest here as opposed to say, France, where they strike about fuckin everything.
>>
>>56974355
I earn around 700-800 euro as an operator of printing machine in advertising agency. I think that i couldn't live normally with minimum wage because i eat in restaurants everyday (because i am too lazy to cook), spend on gasoline, and buy alcohol everyday, So i would spend more than half of minimum salary only on these things, and i wouldn't have money on anything else.

Minimum salaries are here: >>56973480

Your minimum salary is the same as ours more or less, after tax it is around 360 euro.

But you have much higher prices than we do from what i see:

>>
>>56974854
800 euro per what? Every other week? I make 900 USD post tax everyother week running a printing press. I'm curious how it is in your country
>>
>>56974748
We have National Wage Agreement as well. One of the problems with it, it is very slow process. IT's one of the reason why we are in the shit. The old contracts are expiring on autumn so we can't make any big decisions before that. So our government started threating to make budget cuts and other stuff, unless the parties themselves are willing to come to agreement.
Now we are trying to build more locally focused agreement (the Swedish way), where national consensus between unions aren't needed.
>>
>>56975004

Your country has 4x higher wages than Poland, fattard. But also higher cost of living (around 2x), so your real purchase power is around 2x higher than here.
>>

[/autism time]

Here in Poland you would be paid more as unskilled imbecile in supermarket putting products on shelves. F.e. Lidl rised minimum salary lately to 450 dollar after tax. And after 2 years of work you have guaranteed salary 600 dollar after tax. The job is 8 hours / day of course, 5 days in a week.

This is a total fallacy. Our minimum wage is 50 cents an hour.
Being more honest is the fact that almost no one earns the minimum wage. And most people that do change from formal to an informal job, you earn more by cleaning windshields in the streets or selling cigarettes at bars than what you could posible make by being a white collar worker, let a lone a minimum wage slave.
On the other hand; food and transportation is really cheap in Mexico, so that's why there haven't been a great famish in here YET.
>>
>>56975797
My uncle was building house 2 years ago. He hired 3 Ukrainians and paid them literally 30% (i am not kidding) of normal salary of Pole working on construction site, and they didn't even complain. Although he gave them a place where they could live and they didn't have to pay much for it. Of course whole thing was illegal because uncle didn't even pay any tax
>>
>>56975797
No, you can sue the company and the worker is guaranteed to win, the problem is that it is a large and tedious process and it's not worth it, only way it would be worth it is that everyone did sue and that would change things, but as I said, the situation is very bad here and people is afraid to lose their jobs, even if they are shitty ones.

You had 100 years of undisturbed capitalist growth, no world wars turning your territory into ash and removing 30% of your population, you didn't live 45 years under communism that destroyed economy of your country and mentality of your people. So i would say that it is a very average result. If Poland could grow like Turkey in last century, we would be as rich as Western countries today.

Surely yes, but i never tried to live like that after i went out from parents house. I have my own apartment though, so i don't have to pay for rent, that's why my life is easier than those who must pay loan for apartment/rent.

Minimum wage here in Poland is truly a fucking vegetation. I think it is easier to live on such amount of money if you have a girlfriend who also earns minimum wage. 1400 zl + 1400 zl = 2800 zl. Such amount of money on two persons is already liveable but such life is very shitty and low imo. Renting apartment would cost 1400 zl with bills, normal food for two 600 zl / month, and you are left only with 800 zl to spend on such things like cinema, clubs, clothes. Poverty-tier life. And if you have a child, standard of life falls down even more, although here government pays 500 zl / month of benefit for first child if your income is low and 500 zl / month of benefit for every second, third, fourth.... and so on child till it turns 18 y.o. so it helps a bit
