Care to explain to me how I'm wrong? The old IRA caused the mass exodus of protestants from Ireland in the early 20th century, and went as far as to remove virtually every protestant Irishman in Cork (see Dunmanway killings). Reminder these killings were indiscriminate when it came to loyalty to Britain, it was only a matter on if you were a protestant or not.

I refuse to believe anyone with half a brain would defend the Provos and its splinter groups. They (as well as equally scummy loyalist paramilitaries) carried out ridiculous crimes which I won't even mention because I'm sure you already know about them.

From my point of view, it is similar to an inverted Latin syntax, with the verb coming first.
But otherwise, the grammar is really complex, especially regarding the verb conjugation, pronouns and prepositions.

Also the fact that the language isn't phonetic and the phonology is generally really fucked up, makes it hard to know how to say things.
>>
>>56958700
You just gotta nail the grammar. It's really not all that hard to pick up. And you want to choose a dialect, I recommend Gaeilge na hUlaidh. It has a better flow than the others when speaking and some pretty nice words and phrases e.g cha dtig liom for "i can't" instead of Ní féidir liom.

Tbh I dont even really think about grammar so I dont know that feel senpai but in one of my highschool classes the non fluent speakers eventually became better speakers than the native irish speakers because they learned it from scratch! (The grammar)
They never made a mistake. Then again we had the problem with irish slang (those who already spoke it from childhood)
So in a few years or less youll probably be a better speaker than most.

How does irish gaelic compare to scottish gaelic?
Same language, mutually intelligible, or hard to understand each other?
And what do scots think about gaelic, do they consider it their native national language?
>>
>>56959059
I don't know about grammar either. My brain is wired so I just sorta learn it along the way and then piece together the "logic" behind it as I go.
However, it is good to gain a general understanding of how it sounds compared to your own language.

Don't worry. It's understandable considering how few speakers there are. Not like I'm busy on fucking Easter when most of my family lives far away.
To be fair, I feel like one of those turboautists that dedicate themselves to something completely niche. But I have a lot of free time with my work, and I don't really have any hobbies as I grew out of them.

Gaelic is only the native language of the Scottish Highlands.

The rest of the country has always been anglo and Scots/English speaking.

In fact Scots is a purer form of old anglic than English is, due to Scotland not being conquered by the French. It shares a lot of its vocabulary with Danish/Swedish/Norwegian.

The suppresion of gaelic was carried out entirely by the Lowland Scots who regarded themselves as "inglis" (pronounced like angles) and the Highlanders as "erse" (irish).

Stop blaming "free state sell-out cunts" when the failure of Ulster to stand up for itself is what caused Ulster to be abandoned in the fight for independence like the dead weight that it was. Ulster never could be part of a free Ireland because Ulster had allowed itself to be invaded and taken over hundreds of years before.

>and youre wrong, again, as it was originally the norman families who initially resisted the tudor conquest of ireland, to the point they had already been destroyed whilst your precious earl was sucking up to them

Wrong. The Normans initially fought against the Gaelic Irish, it's a major reason why some Gaels were willing to swear an oath to the King, so their lands would be protected under law, instead of Normans and Gaels fighting over de facto control of lands.

It was only after the Normans were ostracised by the English themselves that they entered into rebellion. They couldn't run their lands and their wars how they wanted. They felt too Irish for the English, and too English for the Irish. The Normans didn't look out for Gaelic Ireland, they were looking after themselves and they were -very- willing to sell out any Gaels that went into rebellion alongside them, so that they could retain their lands.

>The Hiberno-Norman lords had been able to carve out fiefdoms for themselves but not to settle them with English tenants. As a result, in the 14th and 15th centuries, in the wake of Irish rebellion, Scottish invasion, the Black Death and a lack of interest on the part of the London government, the territories controlled by those lords achieved a high degree of independence. The Butlers, Fitzgeralds and Burkes raised their own armed forces, enforced their own law, and adopted Gaelic language and culture.

>Beyond those territories large areas of land previously held by authority of the English crown were taken by the resurgent Gaelic Irish, particularly in the north and midlands. Among the most important septs were the O'Neills (Uí Néill) in central Ulster (Tir Eoghain)—flanked to their west by the O'Donnells—the O'Byrnes and O'Tooles in County Wicklow, the Kavanaghs in County Wexford, the MacCarthys and O'Sullivans in County Cork and County Kerry and the O'Brien (Ó Briain) lordship of Thomond in County Clare.

>the only one of the Norman houses to actually enter into revolt was Fitzgerald

Yeah, it was the Normans and not the Gaelic Irish who fought the Tudors :^)
