Reagan was a great president. Only liberal butthurt retards deny this. He has the highest favorability since Eisenhower. And made economy grow, when the US was stagnating.

Like most Presidents, he is despised by progressive Americans for being a white male.

Most of those posting under the US flag on /int/, are self-hating white progressives.

Spemding was needed to reactivate the economy, but unlike Obama,it was also lead by deregulation, which made the evonomy boom. Incrwasing the debt is not dangerous, when you are growing faster than the interest rates.
I dont know where this tickle down economics meme comes from, when the middle class was also benefited a lot by Reagan's reform.
The only thing that he did wrong was the war on drugs. Just that.

Hur hur,is better to have a 7 years recession like 2008's or 1929' crashes than to have a healthy economy hur hur.
Hur hur Crippling the USSR beyond believe is not worthy because muh retirement funds hur hur.
Reagan startegy's was genius, and allowed America to be the only superpower on the planet.
Only libtard retards believe that he was a bad president, when he singlehandly, transitioned Americans's economy to a healthy one,and defeated the USSR just by spending money, which forced the USSR to spend all their resources in defense while their economy was dying.

And that's why corporate executives have all kinds of tax-free perks, business expense accounts, use of the company car and chauffeur, free booze (and they guzzled) and the likes, which weren't investigated too closely.

Yeah I like him more than any other recent President. He smelled Stalins plans and made the ruskies bleed before committing troops on the third front which he did only when the germans were in tatters and were pretty much inviting the US to land grab as much of Germany inb4 the Soviets.
At the end a tattered depleted Red Army faced a fresh well equipped US force that was just experienced enough to be effective.
Also pretended to invade Italy for two years and had Patton removed after he was actually making too much progress.

>Were the Republicans the liberal party in the 50s? A lot of those seem like policies that the democrats would enact today.
Not really no. Actually a lot of Republicans thought Ike was too liberal. Barry Goldwater called him a dime store New Dealer.

More accurately, the Republicans lost and lost elections for years because they were out of touch with the times and kept trying to go back to this outmoded 19th century laisse-faire capitalism. Ike won two terms mostly by agreeing to go along with most Democrat domestic policies or at least not challenge them.

>>
>>56859395
Ike was definitely more progressive (arguably out of necessity than want, think Lincoln) on a lot of issues. He was the one that initiated or at least seriously supported desegregation, IIRC it had something to do with his time in the army, even sent in soldiers and federal marshals to guard darkies in the south even while they were in class. If he was alive today I think he'd be closer to the left wing of the Republican party but not a Democrat.
>>
>>56865240
Totalitarian regimes rarely fall without outside pressure.

>>56865271
The point was more that the mid-20th century was the age of big government planned economies and the GOP were simply out of touch with the times. After the 60s, the pendulum started swinging back towards laisse-faire capitalism.
>>
>>56865240
The USSR wanted to have a military on par with the US. This forced them to spend huge amounts of their budget on military, something that hurt a lot the economy.
But I guess that a Brittish that barely knows how to speak his own language can brag about education.
>>
>>56864966
>kept trying to go back to this outmoded 19th century laisse-faire capitalism

In fact just about every significant piece of civil rights legislation in US history was sponsored by Republicans and opposed by Democrats.
>>
>>56865219
And do you now see your original fallacy of comparing different recessions at different times in different countries that affect their macroeconomies in different ways as a flawed way or gauging whether a governments policy was good or not?
Whether deficit spending is a good idea is a different arguement but it's not one a Reagan who advocated small and responsible government would pay lip service to, even if it is what he did in practice
>>
>>56865333
Then the economic model wasnt outdated.
But we are still leaving in a big goverment era, which culminated on the 2008 crisis, wuth the Fed's and BCE's irresponsible interest rates.
>>
>>56865453
Spain,Greece and Italy did dumb economic deccisions, especially when the recession started and choose to increase regulations and spend on garbage. Reagan increased the debt to finish the USSR once and for all.

The middle class significantly expanded under Reagan and poverty levels decreased. This is in comparison to the Carter years when workforce participation was at the lowest level since the Depression.
>>

Still mad that he proved leftist ideas totally wrong and made look stupid? Reagan,Thatcher, Franco,Pinochet and Lee Kuan Yew showed how stupid liberal ideas are and make lefties de facto retards for supporting a dumb ideology.
Reagan was cunning and saved US economy from collapsing. The same goes for Thatcher.

Compare to Europe in the 70s when half the continent was under the Soviet boot, the IRA, Red Brigades, and Baader-Meinhof Gang were running amuck, and Spain/Portugal/Greece were dictatorships (well ok two of those transitioned to democracy during that decade).

Latin America was full of dictatorships in the 70s, Africa was as well in addition to civil wars and coups all day every day, and over half of Asia was one vast gulag.

Reagan isn't shit like libtards like to pretend he is. But he isn't some god sent perfect president like conservatives like to claim he is either.

His policies were very effective in their prime but they were harmful in the long run. He still wasn't awful though. 7/10 president, Eisenhower was better.

I feel like a lot of European right wingers tend to associate him with conservative perfection.
>>
>>56866250
Nah. Kim Yuang Lee is comservative perfection. Reagan is a solid 8.5 and Thatcher is a solid 9. They modernized the economy and ended unefficient models, and finished the cold war.
The Bushes and Clinton destroyed his legacy .

If anyone is interested, this a great book that shows how stupid liberalism is and how true conservatisn is the upper ideology. And is a pretty interesting book,of how a place with a 400$ PIB per capita, ended up having one of the highest PIB per capita with literally no resources.

>Based Yew

He is the highest tier of conservatism, but I wouldn't' call Reagan an 8.5. I'd give him a 7.5 at highest. A day to day example of a negative Reagan policy that the typical American has experience with would be his defundment of mental health to fund military expenditures. When he did this he let hundreds of thousands of mentally ill people out on the streets. These people constitute about half of the US homeless population. They increase, crime, violence and drug use and the worst thing is that many of them are simply mentally disabled (typically people with schizophrenia & strong bipolar disorder) and could be corrected with health care. As they're unstable when unmedicated they can't really pay for this stuff privately which is very expensive here. This is an example of his poor future planning. His military and economic ideology was largely correct but flawed in many ways. He was too much of an optimist. He could have funded this spending through allowance of domestic oil drilling coupled with a light tax to fund mental health.
>>
>>56866805
Reagan didnt have the control that Yew had over Singapure. Yew would have delt with some problems way more pragmatically. Reagan was pretty good, and he transitioned the economy to a more healthy one. He did some mistakes, but overall,he left the country in a way better position, with a thriving middle class ,and fewer property. And slayed US biggest foe
