You don't need to be a social butterfly. Sometimes, when I speak another language, I feel different. Slightly detached from myself. I swear a lot in my native language, and I'm not proud of it. I swear very little in English or other languages I'm learning. I know some Spanish and I'm learning Portuguese and talking in these languages softens me. Try even mumbling, let's say, Italian. Record yourself saying a thoughtful sentence and hear how you sound. Who you are in that tape
I know it sounds vaguely split personality, but it's not. You're simply entering that language's sphere, its expression
My point is - it can open you, give you new ways to communicate, with your body and mind

>>56844678
Go for it alone. It's better to teach yourself, at your own pace. Motivation and quality sake
Most courses are very introductory, like Pimsleur ones, where they teach your endless repetition. While it's good repetition, it's still fucking repetition. And I don't know who'd want to go through 30-33 tracks of two CDs and learn how to communicate with a native woman, order her a drink and ask her about plain subjects. Fuck that
You have to find a real, transfer-kind of experience. Where you learn everything mashed on the go.
Memrise and Duolingo are good for vocabulary, and I'm currently using this Cypriot guy's method, called "Language transfer" (Google it). It's pretty fly shit if you ask me. There's Greek, Arabic, Turkish, German and Spanish so far, and the way he throws you into lessons is compelling and automatically gives you "something" after each lesson, without directly setting your curve and goals. I found that I can already apply it from day one. I tried Turkish, six lessons from a total of 44, I think, and I could already assemble simple sentences including vital verbs (to be/see/go/take/do/hear/understand)
So anyone interested in finding a nice "supplement" for these languages, I recommend the above

Einstein goes to a party and someone approaches him. Einstein asks: What's your IQ? 250, says the person. So Einstein starts talking to him about quantum physics, black holes, singularities and space-time.
After a while another one comes up to him and Einstein also asks him: What's your IQ? 150 says the guy. So Einstein starts talking about international law and ethical problems with genetic manipulation.
A bit later another person comes up to him.
So Einstein asks: What's your IQ? 100 says the guy. So Einstein starts talking about the government, wages and oil prices.
A bit later again another person approaches him.
So Einstein asks: What's your IQ? 50, the person answers. So Einstein starts talking about tv shows like Big Brother and Idols.
Then another person comes up to him.
So Einstein asks: What's your IQ? 10, says the guy. So then Einstein asks: How's Manchester United?
Now I think of it. Why does this joke remind me of Louis van Gaal?

They need to establish some kind of connection to get to you, through to you or whatever. I can insult you in Serbo-Croatian, sure, but that's not going to achieve my goals (first, insulting won't achieve it, then, you not understanding would render my writing unnecessary)
It's a clear, masochist pattern with you Anglos here. You open one of these threads and then play defence and golden keks, when a topic like this, about polyglots, should truly be a polyglot's thread: in multiple languages. Then we would actually be able to avoid your Anglo mental masturbation
You open this subject, people start discussing other languages and the benefits, what they're learning, if they're stalling and whatnot, and Anglos just jump and dance around these posts saying "don't need it, don't need it. Just because the declension rules have been modified in a few situations doesn't mean there's two new genders, you goddamn durak
I just learned english in 7 seven days.
>>56846148
It is. And the difference in grammar is the sense of the fourth and fifth genders.
And its not a mine schizophernic's theory.
Proffesional lingivistical scientists named them as genders.
>>56846259
Because all ex USSR countries english teachers can't speak for shit, their english is broken as fuck and if a kid knows proper english and does not speak the teacher's incorrect way he will get bad grades. Also dubbing everything does not help much.

>>56846851
It's because in Crotian words that'd been added from another languages are masculine.
But if a masculin word can into woman, it looks like general gender.
Also russian have russian words, for example zabijaka, that can in man/woman forms.

Pretty much this. I don't get where he got the idea that the gender of the object in a sentence has to match the gender of the subject. That's just absurd.

Frisian is historically closer to English than German/Dutch. I don't really know whether this is still true today after centuries of separation, but originally they're quite close.
Low German is different enough to be considered a language in its own right, but not much more.

>>56848064
Actually no. It's a myth that was made by anglos with butthurt.
French doesn't sound gay. It sounds southern, maybe even tropical. But not gay.
And some english dialects really can sounds gay.
>>56848043
Accents. Good English accents: the Secret Circle TV-series, John's Hamm (understand him badly, but sounds nice).
Orphography is weird for us too, but Russian has weird orphography too.
Russian also similar to English in one part: the both languages went a much more away in the language culture from different languages in their groups.
>>56848064
Stupid canuck who says "aboot" looooooooool
>>56848154
honestly no one care about that. I can promise you from reading my facebook feed that the majority of English people don't know either

Really? I kinda just thought that ppl that spoke other east slavic languages just started using Russian instead. Or do you mean east slavic languages in general deviated more from old church slavonic or whatever the 'latin' of slavic languages was.
>>56848043
I don't know if annoying, but the spelling is just something else.

no this is
>>56848256
A lot of Dutch words also have a plural form that end with -s. And on occasion we also use an apostrophe before it.
When in Dutch and English two exact same words have a different -s plural form it becomes especially confusing.

>anglos won
USA will be mexican in 100-150 years, and """"" anglo """"". Canadians are : muslims, khokholes, arabs, chinese, pokemon's, aliens, feminists..
But quebecians exist as a nation.
Dearest creature in creation,
Study English pronunciation.
I will teach you in my verse
Sounds like corpse, corps, horse, and worse.
I will keep you, Suzy, busy,
Make your head with heat grow dizzy.
Tear in eye, your dress will tear.
So shall I! Oh hear my prayer.
Just compare heart, beard, and heard,
Dies and diet, lord and word,
Sword and sward, retain and Britain.
(Mind the latter, how it’s written.)
Now I surely will not plague you
With such words as plaque and ague.
But be careful how you speak:
Say break and steak, but bleak and streak;
Cloven, oven, how and low,
Script, receipt, show, poem, and toe.
Hear me say, devoid of trickery,
Daughter, laughter, and Terpsichore,
Typhoid, measles, topsails, aisles,
Exiles, similes, and reviles;
Scholar, vicar, and cigar,
Solar, mica, war and far;
One, anemone, Balmoral,
Kitchen, lichen, laundry, laurel;
Gertrude, German, wind and mind,
Scene, Melpomene, mankind.
Billet does not rhyme with ballet,
Bouquet, wallet, mallet, chalet.
Blood and flood are not like food,
Nor is mould like should and would.
Viscous, viscount, load and broad,
Toward, to forward, to reward.
And your pronunciation’s OK
When you correctly say croquet,
Rounded, wounded, grieve and sieve,
Friend and fiend, alive and live.
Ivy, privy, famous; clamour
And enamour rhyme with hammer.
River, rival, tomb, bomb, comb,
Doll and roll and some and home.
Stranger does not rhyme with anger,
Neither does devour with clangour.
Souls but foul, haunt but aunt,
Font, front, wont, want, grand, and grant,
Shoes, goes, does. Now first say finger,
And then singer, ginger, linger,
Real, zeal, mauve, gauze, gouge and gauge,
Marriage, foliage, mirage, and age.
Query does not rhyme with very,
Nor does fury sound like bury.
Dost, lost, post and doth, cloth, loth.
Job, nob, bosom, transom, oath.
Though the differences seem little,
We say actual but victual.
Refer does not rhyme with deafer.
Fe0ffer does, and zephyr, heifer.
Mint, pint, senate and sedate;
>>56848389
For example in Dutch the plural of baby is baby's. But in English this means you're talking about a single baby his something.
And when you have to write Dutch again you're also tempted to write babies.

Dull, bull, and George ate late.
Scenic, Arabic, Pacific,
Science, conscience, scientific.
Liberty, library, heave and heaven,
Rachel, ache, moustache, eleven.
We say hallowed, but allowed,
People, leopard, towed, but vowed.
Mark the differences, moreover,
Between mover, cover, clover;
Leeches, breeches, wise, precise,
Chalice, but police and lice;
Camel, constable, unstable,
Principle, disciple, label.
Petal, panel, and canal,
Wait, surprise, plait, promise, pal.
Worm and storm, chaise, chaos, chair,
Senator, spectator, mayor.
Tour, but our and succour, four.
Gas, alas, and Arkansas.
Sea, idea, Korea, area,
Psalm, Maria, but malaria.
Youth, south, southern, cleanse and clean.
Doctrine, turpentine, marine.
Compare alien with Italian,
Dandelion and battalion.
Sally with ally, yea, ye,
Eye, I, ay, aye, whey, and key.
Say aver, but ever, fever,
Neither, leisure, skein, deceiver.
Heron, granary, canary.
Crevice and device and aerie.
Face, but preface, not efface.
Phlegm, phlegmatic, ass, glass, bass.
Large, but target, gin, give, verging,
Ought, out, joust and scour, scourging.
Ear, but earn and wear and tear
Do not rhyme with here but ere.
Seven is right, but so is even,
Hyphen, roughen, nephew Stephen,
Monkey, donkey, Turk and jerk,
Ask, grasp, wasp, and cork and work.
Pronunciation (think of Psyche!)
Is a paling stout and spikey?
Won’t it make you lose your wits,
Writing groats and saying grits?
It’s a dark abyss or tunnel:
Strewn with stones, stowed, solace, gunwale,
Islington and Isle of Wight,
Housewife, verdict and indict.
Finally, which rhymes with enough,
Though, through, plough, or dough, or cough?
Hiccough has the sound of cup.
My advice is to give up!!!
